Samarinda's actually the capital city of Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) but yet has a very small airstrip which we fly into from Balikpapan and Malinau. It's also divided by this large river where they're now building a second bridge to complement the original Mahakam Bridge.

That morning I was just doing a photo hunting along the side of Mahakam River. I was a little surprised after I notice there's quite homeless people slept there. They slept anywhere they want, and fought the chill of the night just with sarung, a traditional fabric.

mahakam bridge

The biggest bridge in Samarinda. It connects Samarinda with Samarinda Seberang which separated by Mahakam River. The boat that usually passes by under the bridge is a small boat that guide the tongkang, a flat boat that carries coal.
