This cob house was built by a guy named Ian Marcuse (he headed up the ) in the backyard of the house he rents on Salsbury Drive in Vancouver. Unfortunately there's a good chance the house and the fantastic garden surrounding it will be torn down to make way for duplexes. They're fighting to have the cob house and the property it's on preserved from housing development and are aiming to turn it into a park or something along those lines. Apparently the city may be interested in buying the property. They've been holding parties and open houses to raise awareness among people in the neighbourhood. So if you're in the 'hood check out the cob house and sign the petition to preserve this amazing structure and surrounding lot. You can find it at 1117 Salsbury Drive, Vancouver, just a couple east of commercial drive. GeoTagged

This used to be Salisbury Garden, a community garden in the Commercial Drive area, which I toured with Heritage Vancouver last summer. It was the object of a nasty dispute between neighbors and a private developer, who wanted to cash in. Obviously the developer won. Only the Save the Salisbury Dr. Garden sign is left. City Council originally approved the developer's plans for the site but the community took the matter to the Board of Variance, which overturned it. The developer sued and won. Finally, City Council fired the entire Board and Variance for this and another decision in which they had sided with the community against a developer.

we must be the caretaker. We want this place to live... Save the salsbury drive cob garden! Construction has started at this community garden lately. Trees are being cut and the garden is gone. can the garden still be saved?
