Es un municipio fronterizo que consta de 433 habitantes. Se ubica a 3.696 metros de altitud a 194 km de Calama y a 25 km. de Cosca, a los pies del Salar de Ollagüe. En las partes elevadas se aprecian sierras y volcanes con altitudes promedio de 5.000 m.s.n.m. Ollagüe es frontera chilena con Bolivia. Desde Avaroa, la frontera bolivia, aprox hay que recorrer 1 km hasta llegar a aduana chilena.. es un tramo que normalmente se hace en bus.. pero nosotros tuvimos que caminarlo.. caminar con esa mochila, con todo el calorsh, el cansancio que llevabamos acumulado y más aun la altura.. uff nunca pense que iba a tener tantas ganas de pisar suelo chileno.. y si, me salio el nacionalista en ese momento.. juas que lo pensaria.. Por cierto, esperamos un poco mas de 5hrs al bus que venia desde Calama a buscarnos.. pero claro, con nuestra suerte.. el bus se quedo en panne Lo que se ve de fondo es el volcan Ollagüe Ollagüe, II Region. ...or charging London prices, there's nothing for it but camping in the back yard of a restaurant. It took a while to clear the glass and cat poo to make space for the tent, but hey...beggars can't be choosers. All the locals in town seemed to think we'd die camping out in the Ollague cold, but the first night the temperature only fell to -7C. The second was a bit colder at -13C. On the third it was -17C, so we left for Aucanquilcha. www.pikesonbikes.blogspot.com
