Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House is an opera house and performing arts venue in London. It is also sometimes referred to as "Covent Garden" after the London neighbourhood in which it is located. Taken because of the juxtaposition between the building housing the Design Council and the icon of design. The building is some 60's or 70's edifice covered in a mesh suspended several feet in front of the surface of the building. The entrance to the building has been revamped with chunky diagonal blocks, covered in, amongst other things, wood effect laminate. It's fairly safe to describe the building as an amalgam of ghastly design. And in front of the sheer hideousness which houses a body responsible for promoting design are two examples of a much earlier design ethos, and which are much better designed. Basically good, bad and very ugly.
