Royal Festival Hall
The Royal Festival Hall is a concert, dance and talks venue within Southbank Centre in London, England. It is situated on the South Bank of the River Thames, not far from Hungerford Bridge. And while I was there, there was great popularity in the revived waterside frontage, eating and meeting, with a display of sprightly architectural fountains. Great fun was Dane Jeppe Hein's Appearing Rooms (above). (This aquatic sculpture was originally for a Villa in Italy.) He designed the fountain so that it combines sculpture and architecture, and playfully invites visitors to interact with the changing spaces created by rising and falling walls (jets) of water. Take care when entering the fountain. I even saw people in wheel-chairs enjoying being still dry inside the light-catching water -- they had an advantage. Fitting well with the Festival Hall, this was part of the Haywood Fountain Series. So I thought the Festival Hall restoration excellent. The geodesic dome at Psycho Buildings at the Hayward Gallery. This is the rather dull view that shows how you get into the top half. I believe that, for now, only trained professionals are allowed in there. Mortals only get to go in the bottom.
