The Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park, London
Made by UGArdener
Hyde Park is one of the largest parks in central London, England and one of the Royal Parks of London, famous for its Speakers' Corner. The park is divided in two by the Serpentine Lake. The park is contiguous with Kensington Gardens; although often still assumed to be part of Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens has been technically separate since 1728, when Queen Caroline made a division between the two. Hyde Park is 350 acres (140 hectare/1.4 km²) and Kensington Gardens is 275 acres (110 ha/1.1 km²) giving an overall area of 625 acres (250 ha/2.5 km²), making this park larger than the Principality of Monaco (1.96 square kilometres or 485 acres), but still smaller than Central Park (3.41 square kilometres or 843 acres). To the southeast (but outside of the park) is Hyde Park Corner. Although, during daylight, the two parks merge seamlessly into each other, Kensington Gardens closes at dusk but Hyde Park remains open throughout the year from 5 am until midnight. The park was the site of The Great Exhibition of 1851, for which the Crystal Palace was designed by Joseph Paxton. The park has become a traditional location for mass demonstrations. The Chartists, the Reform League, the Suffragettes and the Stop The War Coalition have all held protests in the park. Many protestors on the Liberty and Livelihood March in 2002 started their march from Hyde Park. On 20 July 1982 in the Hyde Park and Regents Park bombings, two bombs linked to the Provisional Irish Republican Army caused the death of eight members of the Household Cavalry and the Royal Green Jackets and seven horses. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyde_Park,_London

Happy Valentine's 2009 أجمل ما في الحب الصراحة مهما كانت قاسيه لأنها حبات اللؤلؤ التي تزين بها الذكريات
Made by A.T.Q * In UK
14th of Feb 2009 Happy Valentine's Day London , uk I'm Not Crying Say all the words you want baby But I'm not breaking down Your words just bounce right off me My tears are nowhere to be found You and I are over That's road's already been paved And it's too late for you to realize What we had could've been saved Now that your girl dumped you You say you know how I feel But don't expect my sympathy 'Cause you caught the raw end of that deal You're begging me to take you back The tears running down your face But the emotions have frozen within me And I'm in a different place. A place where I don't have to care About how hard you're trying And all I can think as I turn away Is that for once I'm not crying

2007-10-11-016_1_1 London Hyde Park Fog
Made by Martin-James
I'm often asked about London's Fogs by people who live outside the British Isles. 'Peasoupers' or 'London Particulars, thick fogs described by Charles Dickens and Conan Doyle, used to occur frequently, and were due to pollution. These fhick fogs were also the origin of the colours exploited by Turner, Whistler, and Monet, in the paintings they made of London in the nineteenth Century. In December 1952 'The Great Smog of London' occurred, this was an exceptionally thick, polluted atmospheric fog that caused an estimated 4000 deaths. Following this a series of Clean Air acts were passed, these banned the use of coal in London and other cities. The result has been that fogs are now rare in London, we have only a few days of fog in a year, and it's very exceptional for it to last all day. We had some thick mist in Hyde Park at the beginning of October (it cleared soon after sunrise), however, I took some photos of the fog over the Serpentine. week three
Made by ɹǝllǝʞ ɐuoɹ
good times, they’re out there I spent 5 days of this week in London, on a field excursion. I had an amazing time and lots of fun, although there have been hard moments, too. But, I loved London and I so wanna go back there! this picture and its title have been inspired by an advertisement of budweiser, it was everywhere and I actually wanted to steal one to hang it up on my wall. :D I’ll post a picture of it in the comments. I took the picture in our hotel room (on my bed), we stayed near Baker Street. the light is horrible because the only time I got the chance to take pictures was in the middle of the night when I came back from a pub and my roommates have still been out, as I prefer taking pictures of myself when I’m alone. I actually drank alcohol, too, and I had a headache, so under these circumstances I’m quite satisfied with how it turned out. :) there are pictures of me and my friends and two others in the comments, too. p.s. I'm ill at the moment. :( [september 28 – october 4, 2009]

The 2008 Chelsea Flower Show starts Today (if you are a Royal, VIP or Celebrity)
Made by UGArdener
View Large in BLACK: I'm putting up this shot from the 2005 show in honor of the 2008 Chelsea Flower Show. Today the Judges inspect everything and vote on medals, the Royal Family pays a visit, and all the beautiful people are admitted. Tomorrow, Royal Horticultural Society Members are allowed inside, and then the general public is admitted on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I will not be there this year, so I hope somebody puts up some good pictures here. These two gents were part of a group of World War Two vets who helped design a 2005 Display Garden called A Vision of Blighty to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the end of the war. Their reward was that they got to sit at this table in front of a re-created village pub and be a part of the garden for an hour or so while someone kept bringing them more free beer. After an hour or so, they were replaced by two fresh pensioners and the process began again. Nice work if you can get it, and well earned.

Albert Hall
Made by Simon Crubellier
Been a while since I did one of these... While I was shooting the many, many bracketed shots some of which went into this, a couple appeared in the bottom right of the frame. It was obvious the bloke was holding forth about some fascinating nugget of imperial history because he must have stood there waffling on for a good ten minutes. Eventually his friend wandered off down the slope towards the gate... and the miserable toerag stayed there, staring off into the distance, no doubt dreaming of how much happier his life would have been in the days of Empire, when he could have just legged it to Malaysia, opened a rubber plantation, and married a local woman who wouldn't nag, wouldn't wander off leaving him standing like a lemon in somebody's painstakingly set-up shot, and who especially wouldn't mind that he sometimes falls under the delusion he's Niall sodding Ferguson just because he's standing near a bloody statue. He did go eventually. .

Rolls-Royce Coupe DC Design
Made by Jeroenolthof.nl
Based on an old Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit. Ever wondered what would happen if you cross a Nissan 350Z with a Rolls-Royce? Yeah, me neither. But Indian styling house DC Design, the same people who brought us the Cayenne coupe, seem to have a knack for crafting the answers to questions no one was asking – with considerable skill, mind you. DC Comics gave us Batman and Bruce Wayne, but DC Design gives us the wheels that would satisfy both: a one-off custom coach-built Rolls-Royce coupe, complete with gargantuan wheels and trick Enzo-style doors that are sure to turn heads. Details aren't available, though it's rumored to be based on a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit platform. The styling reminds us of such concept cars as the Maybach Exelero and the Peugeot 907 and 908 RC. www.autoblog.com/2006/10/15/bruce-wayne-or-batman-dc-desi...

Her Curly Hair and my Fatherly Instinct
Made by The Round Peg
Lately I feel, more than ever, a strong fatherly instinct. I have always wanted to have children, but in these months I smile more broadly when I see children smiling, laughing or walking their steps through the world. It can be something normal for most of the people, but for me it is a pleasant sensation. During the second day of the Notting Hill Carnival 2008 I met a lot of people, the crowd was almost unbearable at some points, but the children there opened my heart more than once and everything became light and easy. This child's eyes in particular were full of that particular curiosity that it is typical of children. She was amazing: a whistle in her mouth, a white dress, riding her father's shoulders and most of all a great bushy hair to crown that little face. I saw them from the distance; they were walking away from me, but I had some luck because the the man turned for a while, just in time to take this shot.

Adrift
Made by pearceval
Probably a swan feather, as there were lots of them around. This wasn't actually that close and at 300mm focal length I wasn't expecting much from the shot, so was quite pleased with the detail, considering .. My magpie picture has been accumulating views at approximately 40-50 per minute, all day. As I write it has got over 60,000 views (shows less when I'm not signed in, but still growing). As there is no additional feedback on the picture, these views must be coming from an outside source, or is a flickr glitch ... I have sent a mail to flickr staff, but it could take a couple of days to get a reply. I wondered if anyone had come across this before, or had any idea where these views might be coming from. It's very disconcerting. Update .. Thanks to Anything Pretty for letting me know there is a thing on the help forum about it This is a flickr glitch ... It seems to be happening to lots of people.

I see double: Bugatti Veyron 16.4
Made by Jeroenolthof.nl
Not one but two of these extremely exclusive supercars! Not in different colors but two identical white ones! The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is one of the most exclusive cars at the moment. When I made this photo, Bugatti only made three white Veyrons. I saw the third white Veyron the same day at the same location. The owners knew each other and met up at Harrods but were soon asked to leave by London's parking officers. The guy who owns the left Veyron had a problem with his rear wing. It wouldn't come down and he had been on the phone with Bugatti for quite some time now. The car is registered on factory plates. The front Veyron has UK license plates. To see these two cars parked together has been a once in a lifetime experience! Don't forget to comment and fav if you like it. www.jeroenolthof.nl Highest position Explore: 170 on Monday, November 16, 2009.

Asymmetric Congruent Polygons I
Made by Silver Doctor
The Natural History Museum in London is famous for its M.C. Escher-like staircases though they are not impossible to negotiate! Had to have a go at this perspective myself. Used a relatively long shutter speed to blur the people, ironically it took several attempts to get enough figures in the scene moving, despite choosing a rainy saturday and a busy museum, everyone kept standing still! The title comes from Escher's 1941 paper called Regular Division of the Plane with Asymmetric Congruent Polygons, which detailed his mathematical approach to artwork creation. This image is available at RedBubble Explore #409 June 6 2009 Technical 1s @ f/22, ISO 100 - braced (no tripod) 12-24mm Nikkor @ 12mm Post Processing Aperture 2.1: crop sqaure Silver Efex Pro: orange filter

Day 33 - Lazy Busy Bee
Made by Imhara
This picture sums up pretty well what I've been doing all day since I came back here a week ago: take pictures for my 365, edit them on my laptop, use his Macbook Pro to put them on the iPhone, monopolize the iPhone on top of his computer to check out Flickr, my mails and upload my pics on Flickr... Oh, and read Garth Nix's Sabriel too. The only thing missing is the screen I watch too many series when he's at work but also with him once he's home. I know, I should go out to enjoy London while I'm still here... I feel terrible and guilty I don't, knowing that I'm leaving in two days, but alone it's really depressing. I'm a stupid Internet junkie.

Simo Meanwhile Kickflip
Made by Oilinki
Going to Meanwhile was perhaps the best part about last June's trip to London. It's such a legendary spot that I just had to go there and get a photo. I was coaxing Simo to do a hardflip (he's got them on lock), unfortunately that ledge atop the other side ruined that plan. It's much harder to get speed to hit this side, so a kickflip was fine enough with me. Actually, I would have been happy with an ollie. Published in Hang Up 3/2007. Mamiya RZ 67, 37/4.5 fisheye, FP4+ pushed a stop, two Sunpak 120's on the left deck, two SB28's on the right one. 1/400 at f/8.

A Passionate "Welcome Home!"
Made by The Round Peg
They met in front of one of the exits of Notting Hill, near Portobello. When they saw each other they smiled broadly and they hugged with so much passion that a part of me felt guity... but they were so strong that I decided to take a photo of them. Rarely I have seen a public display of strong feeling from a couple that is not in its 20s any longer. The guy held a copy of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian sport newspaper... it does not necessarily mean that they are Italian, but there is a good possibility that he is.

Day 29 - Welcome to the new iPod!
Made by Imhara
Since Steve Jobs announced yesterday the release of new iPods, I thought I should welcome them by showing you ours! We started collecting iPod shuffles this year, on my impulse: they're not soo expensive, and they're so cute! We have one of almost each color, except the new (not so new anymore) blue and green... that we lost. :( I can't wait to see the new colors for real.. I don't know what I think about the new iPod nano though.. But I think I prefer the design of the one I have now.

Made by Jurriaan Vogel
September 10 2011: #1 For the first time ever, one of my photos made it to the first place in Explore! I would like to thank all of you, because you made this possible! And there's one little thing I also want to share with you. On a blog where this photo of my has been posted, I read the next comment: It looks like Justin Bieber just purchased a GTO. I had to laugh about that comment and I need to share it with you!

Bentley Mansory Continental Flying Spur
Made by Jeroenolthof.nl
Fantastic color combination on this Bentley Continental Flying Spur tuned by Mansory. Unfortunately this car doesn't carry the Mansory wheels. This Mansory is part of the RRR Group from Ajman, United Arab Emirates. I had a chat to the person driving it. A very nice guy! He told me the black and orange Bugatti Veyron stayed at the house. Still hope to see that one some day.
