The remains of this Roman townhouse were discovered in Rabat in 1881. Despite everybody recognizing the significance (it was under a bunch of 900-year-old Muslim graves, *and* it had amazing & intact mosaics), in 1899 they destroyed at least 20% of it to build a road. Since then, they've done a better job of preserving the 80% that remained. The part with the amazing mosaics has a museum built around it, and the rest (what you see here) is in a fenced-off backyard, at least.
