Studio, Haarlem
Made by Roloff
This location on de Grote Markt (number 25) was home to a whole bunch of theatres, starting with the Moviac, that may have opened in 1938. The Ac was for Actualité, like the Cineac theatres that mainly showed newsreels. At the start of WWII it was named Journaaltheater, then in '43 reprisetheater. After the war it was renamed City, seating 230 visitors. Then in 1955 it reopened as the Studio with a new seating capacity of 308. The auditorium (no balcony) was in the back, the restrooms under the screen. It mainly showed art house movies, and was operated by owner of the former Lido theatre in Haarlem. Despite adding a cafe and becoming a filmhuis (a smaller art house), it had to close it's doors in 1985. Now all that remains is the café.
