Corner of Bernard and Park: Cinéma Rialto 1936 to present, now the Paradiso Rialto. The Rialto was a venue for live acts for many years until recently changing ownership. It is apparently modelled after the Rialto opera house in Paris. Amusingly, a lot of locals flipped out when the new owners converted it to a restaurant because the building had been designated as an historical location, but the new owners took down the old ticket booth when converting the front of the building to a terasse. This is amusing because as can clearly be seen in the 1936 photo, the original ticket booth and marquee were on the other side of the building in the spot now occupied by Haik Jewellers. So much for historical integrity. historical shot from the Montreal Municipal Archives.
