Reykjavík says goodbye to 2007 and greets the new year. The public goes insane shooting up fireworks and won't let even brisk winds, storm alerts and rain stop them. I missed the start of the fireworks but rushed to this vantage point, I had planned to use, perhaps quarter past midnight. I had decided on settings beforehand to be able to start shooting right away and I think I got close to nailing the exposure thanks to The Ultimate Exposure Computer. Only problem is I didn't account for the wind and my lightweight, cheap tripod. On a calmer night, ƒ/8.0 and 4 seconds might have been nice but with me needing to hold on to the tripod I should have thought of trying ƒ/4.0 and 2 seconds. Besides, the rain was straight at the front of the lens and 2 seconds would have meant fewer photos marred by drops on the front element. I shot 38 photos all in all and this is one of the more decent ones, I'm afraid. At least of the ones that show fireworks as there were starting to be lulls in the action. Not strange as crazy people had been blowing up fireworks almost nonstop since before ten in the evening. Heavily cropped, it at least captures some of the atmosphere of downtown Reykjavík, I hope, before mad revellers hit the town in force. See also basically the . P.S. Ancient and rather ominous looking whaling boats in Reykjavík harbor. Is it just me, or do they look like pirate ships? This was taken with an old wide angle lens (originally bought for my Canon PowerShot A95) attached to my 18-55mm Nikon kit lens! I was surprised I could even focus with this strange combination :)

Tried another night shot last night at at lake Elliðavatn. Fired a hand held flash a couple of times to get the foreground details. Unfortunately, the battery in my camera ran out, so I only got a few shots, but I'll be back for more later :)

I didn't mean to take this, but I kinda like it. We went for a walk in Grótta and while Júlía and Kata were collecting stones and stuff I looked like I was a member of Landmælingar Íslands. Yeah.
