Las Vegas CES Photo Essay-34

After the first keynote, I decided to be smart and walk through the halls from North to South. I waited until the sea of humanity, I mean crowd, cleared the ballroom. Took about 10 steps into North Hall and realized that the other 1,000 or so people in the keynote were smart, too. And they were the wall of people in front of me. After becoming slightly claustrophobic (at 5'2 all I could see were shoulders in front of me) and only advancing a few inches, I clawed by way out and took the outside route. Not bad -- got to get some fresh air, got to walk for 45 minutes straight and got to take a photo of an interesting juxtaposition of signs. An LG smartphone sign next to one that reads Crazy Girls -- Las Vegas' Sexiest Topless Revue.

This booth gets my vote for the most shocking... It's amazing what people will do for a hat and a t-shirt. They had a volunteer for the audience be tasered. After said tasering, the conversation went something like this -- after they lifted the guy off the floor: Booth Announcer: How did that feel? Volunteer: Painful Booth Announcer: At any time while you were being tasered did you feel like you could overpower me? Volunteer: I was concentrating too much on the pain. Booth Announcer: How do you feel now? Volunteer: I have this pain in my leg.... Booth Announcer interrupting volunteer: There you have it folks. Step right over there and get your hat and t-shirt. And, ladies, don't forget...it also comes in PINK!

The day before CES started, I was walking through the Venetian on my way to a meeting. I saw this sign on a CES directional sign right next to the No Smoking sign. Apparently, while you can do just about anything in Las Vegas (and it stays there), they have some sort of law against hitting small children in strollers in the head with a briefcase. And, clearly, it ONLY applies to men in business suits.

Wall from one of my favorite restaurants Dos Caminos in the Palazzo. Had just about finished lunch when my co-worker pointed out that there was an entire wall of skulls looking straight at us. I'm hoping that this has something to do with the Day of the Dead and doesn't represent things that stayed in Vegas.

The company I work for -- Alcatel-Lucent -- helped build Verizon Wireless' blazingly fast new 4G network. (Yes, that was a shameless plug.) Attended the press conference were the new consumer devices were launched. This guy was part of the opening video. Don't know him, but he made a very nice picture.

When I checked in at the Wynn Hotel, the desk clerk cheerfully told me that my room over looked the golf course. Wow...cool. Until I got to my room and saw that it does overlook the golf course if you overlook the roof and air conditioning compressors of the building below first.

Beautiful woman at Zhongguancan booth. The day before, this particular booth had the ladies dressed in bikinis, but I didn't have my camera...I probably couldn't have gotten through the crowd around the booth anyway.

My farewell to the Wynn lobby. It was 4:30 a.m. and I was headed to the airport. This is a picture of me...really...it is ... I had asked a security guard to take my picture on my last day...he was 68 and I'm 5'2...

The real stars of the Verizon Wireless press conference...the new phones. No, that is not a flash on a DSLR...it's the reflection of a spotlight aimed at the phones.

I think this guy was talking about the challenges between cable TV and internet-delivered TV, and he had a wall of TV screen as his podium. Scary, isn't it?
