Wan Chai is centrally located on the northern shore of Hong Kong Island, covering an area of about 976 hectares. It is the home for about 150,000 residents, but also doubles as a popular town centre for over 600,000 workers, shoppers and commuters who flock to the district daily. Wan Chai was originally a fishing village. Throughout the years, it has developed from a residential area to a prime centre of business, conventions, exhibitions, cultural and sports activities, entertainment and shopping. Famous heritage spots in the district include Hung Shing Temple, the former Wan Chai Post Office (now the Environmental Resource Centre) and Lovers' Rock. There are also many well-known modern buildings and facilities, such as the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Happy Valley Racecourse, Hong Kong Stadium, Times Square and Central Plaza. Hansen’s Hikes is happy to arrange for guided tours of the historical parts of Wan Chai and Causeway. More photos and information on opportunities to explore Hong Kong can be found on my website at www.hansens-hikes.com/Gallery.html.
