Since moving to St Louis and learning about the history of Pruitt-Igoe (the blighted former location of which I pass by weekly), I've become oddly fascinated by public housing projects. Matt gave me a little history on these buildings on our walk to work one morning. The apartments were originally built as homes for navy families. They've since become NYC public housing. Gentrification and new development of the neighborhood are quickly creeping in around these buildings now. I wonder how that will affect the people who live here, on both sides of these fences.
