Panorama of the Quilotoa crater and lake, taken from the rim, which is at just over 3850 meters above sea level. The walk down to the lake 400 meters below isn't too difficult, but the hike back up is a bit more challenging, given the thin air. To the left is Manuel, who was so kind to show us around his home country. If he looks a little bit winded, it's because this is shot just after we got back up from the bottom. It's a good thing I took the photo and not him, since I looked a hell of a lot worse than him. Sadly it was cloudy that day, because on a clear day, you're supposed to be able to see the volcano Cotopaxi, towering in the distance. According to Wikipedia, the lake is about 3km. wide.
