Photo taken in May 2005. This beautiful baroque round church has been lying in ruins for more than 50 years, after having been almost comletely destroyed during the bombing of Dresden druring WW2. It has now been reconstructed brick by brick, carefully using as much of the original material as was available. The darker bricks are old ones. They have been compared to old photographs and drawings and put to their original settings, as far as possible. The golden cross on top was forged by an English goldsmith whose father had participated in the bombing of Dresden. Her regarded his work as a compensation for the terrible destruction of the city.
