The first QANTAS Boeing jet airliner. 'City of Canberra' is a Boeing 707-138. I flew on this jet Sydney-Darwin-Singapore in 1963. Currently on display at Longreach Airport. This aircraft has been restored to airworthy condition. The exterior is painted to show how it would have looked when delivered to QANTAS in the late 1950s. The interior remains fitted out as an oppulent and indulgent private jet, with walnut furniture, bedrooms, bathrooms, large drinks bar, gold plated seat belt buckles etc etc. The conversion was made for a nameless rich Saudi Arabian...

Situated in the tail behind the rear toilets. The most likely part of the aircraft to survive intact. The adjacent seats also offer the best chance of survival in a take-off or landing accident. The flight data recorder was an Australian invention. The QANTAS Founders Museum is located at Longreach Airport, western Queensland Australia.

The first QANTAS Boeing jet airliner. 'City of Canberra' is a Boeing 707-138. This aircraft is airworthy (still in flying condition). The cockpit was quite dark as it was powered down and the side sun reflector screens were up. I had to enhance this hasty shot quite a bit.
