Earl Realized He Must Keep Digging
Made by Tex Flix
We stood there for several minutes trying to figure out what was obsessively digging in the corner of the exhibit. As it raised it's head from the shallow hole, Kiki exclaimed I think it's a Meerkat, Daddy! After a short pause and in a rather disappointed tone, she said but, they look much cutier on TV. Well, honey that's television... they have make-up artists to make them look that good. Oh, that makes sense. I wonder when she'll figure that one out. Feeding your kids misinformation can be so entertaining sometimes. Large.

Abyssinian Ground Hornbill
Made by TXZeiss
(Bucorvus abyssinicus) Whoever came up with the phrase bird brain never attracted the attention of an Abyssinian Ground-hornbill. There is no doubt that they are as interested in you as you are in them. Today the female (pictured here), spotted me and ran right up to the edge of the large enclosure to see what I was up to. It wasn't long before the male trotted up and handed over a mouse for a quick lunch. They both ran off to play tricks on the Lesser Kudu who they share the enclosure with.

Abyssinian Ground Hornbill
Made by TXZeiss
(Bucorvus abyssinicus) If I hadn't been told about it before, I probably would have been confused. The zoo's female Abyssinian Ground Hornbill seems to have a long-standing but unrequited infatuation with the male (antelope type animal). Nothing like watching a large bird trying to offer a beak full of nesting materials to her love of a different species.

Go Coogs!
Made by TXZeiss
Defaults on the camera. I'll read the manual soon, I wanted to see how it was tuned out of the box. Lightroom doesn't support the RAW files yet, so this is from the JPG. I 'shop only a couple of photos a year -- it's not an elitiest thing, I'm just plain lazy. EC-14 thrown into the mix although my own bad habits have a larger negative impact.

Fort Worth Zoo gorilla 03-04-04
Made by travelvidphoto
I've watched this big silverback many, many times in the past several years. He always looks so sad to be caged. The look in his eyes is always so hard to see. He is certainly a very photogenic fellow and has posed for countless photos over the years. (This one was taken back in 2004.)

"The Lunch Counter is Closed!"
Made by TXZeiss
(Panthera leo) [This is a Species Survival Plan® (SSP) species] Mom was having a really rough day with the cubs. This was about as crabby as I have seen her. She started the day down in the dry moat having some alone time if that tells you anything...

Andrew
Made by Mike McInnis
As we were preparing to leave the zoo, Andrew climbed some rocks and struck this pose completely spontaneously, and asked me to take his picture. The sideways hat was his idea; he kept telling me, It looks cool this way.

Abyssinian Ground Hornbill
Made by TXZeiss
(Bucorvus abyssinicus) I really enjoy these birds. They hang out with the Lesser Kudu in an area near the main entrance. When you spot them, spend a little time watching them. These two always seem to be up to something.

Protrusion

Gate to the Wilds of Texas exhibit at the Ft. Worth Zoo. We spent a beautiful sunny afternoon at the Ft. Worth Zoo yesterday. The only thing I would could have hoped for, was that we could have stayed longer.

Hand held and it got the focus on the pollen. Never could have done this hand held with my old bellows rig. Not going to be a dull winter this year. I've got something to do!

White Hibiscus

The shaft of sunlight illuminating this beautiful white hibiscus left the background in deep shadow, and made for a perfect shot. Shot at the Fort Worth Zoo, July 9, 2006.
