Preston
Preston is a city and local government district in North West England. It is the administrative centre of Lancashire, and is on the River Ribble. Preston was granted the status of a city in 2002,^ becoming England's 50th city in the 50th year of Queen Elizabeth's reign.Preston has several cultural attractions worth visiting, such as the city museum, Minster Church and the UK's National Football Museum .

Mosses (aka bryophytes)

This is a photograph of some mosses growing on the walls of Stirling Castle. It is more the kind of photograph I take when I do my normal job as an ecologist. The inset picture is a macro shot of one of the cushions (which is about 3cm across) and is a moss called Orthotrichum anomalum. It is a species that grows only on rock and specifically rock which is chemically basic rather than acid. These also tend to grow on basic lime mortar or cement. Just below it, and a bit smaller, is another species called Grimmia pulvinata, which grows absolutely everywhere on stone and concrete buildings in towns and cities as well as the country, so keep your eye out for it. These lower plants don't have roots but cling to the rock by small root-like filaments and they are fed purely by the rock itself and the rain water which flows over it. They are usually overlooked by their more evolutionarily advanced, showier and bigger vascular plants (your usual flowering plants) but they are fascinating and beautiful when you start looking at them close-up, usually needing a hand lens or, often, a stereo or high-powered microscope. This is far from sharp but what I like about the picture is the lowering sunlight, which is coming into the horizontal layers of the bus station car park. It hits the front of these cars and then the different coloured reflected light from the bonnets hits the ceiling and is the then reflected back down on to the floor. Also the car park lights join in to create a riot of colour. I've enhanced it a bit using levels and curves. Didnt think grey concrete car parks could look this nice. <---- New Group, please join and add your photos
