Exotisch: Katholiken in Moskau
Made by SebastianBerlin

Moscow's skyscrapers MIBC
Made by Tornny
Moscow International Business Centre (Russian: Московский Международный Деловой Центр, Moskovskiy Mezhdunarodniy Delovoy Tsentr; ММДЦ, MMDTs ), also referred to as Moscow-City[1][2] (Russian: Москва-Сити, Moskva Siti) is a commercial district of central Moscow, Russia. Located near the Third Ring Road in Presnensky District of western Moscow, the Moscow-City area is currently under development. The Moscow IBC is expected to become the first zone in Russia to combine business activity, living space and entertainment in one single development[3]. The Moscow government first conceived the project in 1992[4]. An estimated 250,000 - 300,000 people will be working, living, or visiting the complex at any one time.[3] The construction of Moscow IBC is taking place on the Presnenskaya embankment of the Moscow River approximately 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) west of Red Square, and just east of the Third Ring Road. The project occupies an area of 60 hectares,[3] the territory chosen being the only area in central Moscow that can accommodate such a project[citation needed]. Before construction began, the area represented an old stone quarry where most of the buildings were old factories and industrial complexes that had been closed or abandoned. The total cost of the project is estimated at $12 billion[4].

Where R Ur Six Sisters?
Made by enrico zanolla
The Seven Sisters is the name given to various Moscow Skyscrapers by British immigrants who came to live in Russia in the 1980s and 90s.[citation needed] Reluctant to adopt the original names, they preferred to give the famous tourist sites English names which are often quite charming, and are now in common use among British expatriates living in Russia. The same time, Moscow inhabitants never use name Seven Sisters and used to call these buildings Vysotki (Russian: Высотки), which means Tall buildings. The Seven Sisters were built during Stalin's last years (1947-1953)[1] in an elaborate combination of Russian Baroque and Gothic styles, and the technology used in building American skyscrapers. Although there are many similar buildings in other (former) Socialist countries, the only comparable Soviet designed skyscraper was built in Warsaw. Seven Sisters

The Federal Security Service proved to be slower then Voina activists breaking into the the White House. Voina will step up with the Anarchist assault on federal authority. Made by seriykotik1970
Neo-Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral, Bolshaya Gruzinskaya Street, Moscow Wide angle matchbox pinhole camera, 35mm film The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception was built by the Polish Catholic community in Moscow fom 1901 to1911 and is supposedly influenced by Westminster Abbey- can't see it myself. It was confiscated by the Soviet government in 1938 , damaged by bombing in WW II and then used as an office building- with extra floors built inside to subdivide the space. It was restored to its original glory in the 1990s and returned to the Catholic Church.

Москва (Moscow) - Kudrinskaya Square Building (Кудринской площади Строительство)
Made by jaime.silva
One of the so called Seven sisters - The Seven Sisters is the English name given to a group of Moscow skyscrapers designed in the Stalinist style. Muscovites call them Vysotki or Stalinskie Vysotki (Russian: Сталинские высотки), (Stalin's) high-rises. They were built from 1947 to 1953,[1] in an elaborate combination of Russian Baroque and Gothic styles, and the technology used in building American skyscrapers. (see more at wikipedia)

White House
Made by Captain Chaos
The White House, the seat of the Russian government (or actually of the cabinet). It was bombarded during the Russian constitutional crisis in 1993. I took this picture from the observation deck of our hotel. When I tried to take another one, I was told by a security guard it was not allowed to take pictures of this building. Extremely silly, in my opinion, since there must be thousands of pictures in existence already, and thousands of places from where you could take a picture...

Kalinin Prospekt
Made by SebastianBerlin
In a drawer, I found old postcards of Moscow about which I had completely forgotten. This is Kalinin Street (Калининский проспект), opened in 1963 as a new arterial road towards the west. In 1990, it was renamed in New Arbat (Новый арбат) after the end of the Soviet Union. Today, the houses are quite the same but you see all kinds of advertising everywhere. And much more cars on the street. The postcard is from the early 1970ies, I guess.

Der Hamster
Made by SebastianBerlin

Sad
Made by John©
Looks like I'm buggered re adding new stuff as a drive around Paris to find developer today proved fruitless. Seems the camera shops, like everyone else in this city, fuck off to the south until the end of August. Buying online isn't worth it as by the time it arrives shops here will have re-opened. So old stuff till then. [Kiev 60] [Arsat f=80/1:2.8] [Fomapan 100] [Rodinal 1+100, 26 minutes with agitation every 30 seconds, Temp 20C]

Martini

Moscow is covered in huge billboards like this. It's the most commercial city I've ever been in, and that includes American cities! The sign on top says Gazprom, which is the controversial gas company which controls almost all of Russia's gas exports and is in the habit of cutting off the gas supply to entire countries if they have a conflict with them.

Сталинские высотки
Made by John©
One of Moscows Seven Sisters, this, exceptionally, being an almost purely residential building close to Kudrinskaya square. Its one concession to enterprise is Кружка, a Russian pub, part of a large chain, in the basement. Cheap beer and fries with garlic dip. Heaven. [Kiev 88] [Volna 80mm f/2.8] [Fortepan 200] [Processed in Fomadon at 20 degrees, 7 minutes with inversion every 30 seconds]

Forgotten
Made by max_trudo
This is a house built in 1932 for Soviet Russia's newly created Finance Ministry (Narkomfin = narodny kommissariat finansov). A fine example of Constructivist architecture and avant-garde interior planning, it is now forgotten and neglected. Lubitel + Kodak160vc (double exposure, cross). This is a final in a series of three pictures of the Narkomfin building. I have more but I guess three is enough.

Neglected
Made by max_trudo
A product of a social experiment this is still an experiment on people who live there. About half of the apartments are still livable but to live there is an ordeal because the building has been neither repaired nor refitted for the past 80 years. It's a communal house, all apartments lead to one long corridor, there are no kitchens because in a communist future we all are going to eat together!

The baby elephant with mother
Made by Bralgin
June 14, 2009. The Baby Elephant was born on the night of 21 to 22 April at the Moscow Zoo. It is small she-elephant. Now the family of the Asian elephants consists of the elephant bull, two she-elephants (elephant cows) and a small she-elephant (elephant cow). The Baby Elephant walk with its elephant-mum and elephant-aunt since morning and till 2 p.m. The elephant-daddy walk after 2 p.m. hours.

Traffic Ring
Made by max_trudo
Stuck in traffic. It's another pic I've taken from my car while being caught in a traffic jam. Traffic is bad but when I look slighly up I see the buildings (Garden Ring is lined with Stalinist buildings) and even bits of sky above. And I don't see all those cars and angry people around me. Holga, Kodak 160vc, cross. Crossing a negative film produces this strange color.

Abandoned
Made by max_trudo
It's a fragment of a house (Narkomfin House) that was once (late 1920s) a showcase of Russia's cutting-edge constructivism architecture. It's now half-abandoned, half-destroyed. Curiously, it's located right next to the U.S. Embassy in the very center of Moscow, Lubitel + Kodak160vc (cross). A truly sad place. To be continued.
