Porto (in English also Oporto; Portuguese pron. IPA ), population 326,654 in 15 parishes, with about 1,600,000 in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Porto (continuous urban aglomeration), is Portugal's second city. Porto's municipality is the core of a large northern Atlantic conurbation, and Porto district is one of the most industrialised districts of Portugal.

The first place to begin with is the Ribeira, the part of the city near the river, which is also a good place to start visiting the World Heritage area; to the other side of the river you will see the Ribeira de Gaia, a similar area from the city of Vila Nova de Gaia (the two are only separated by the river) and where you could find the Port Wine Cellars. Next go up to the São Francisco church and the Stock Exchange palace nearby, where you can visit the most impressive Arab room in the country. The world known Modern Art museum at Serralves and the Casa da Música (House of Music) concert hall live in the area known as Boavista. From there you can reach the amazing ocean front drive, known as "Foz". Go back to the center of the city and visit Mercado do Bolhão, a traditional market of fruits, vegetables, fish and meat. Next the Aliados and the City Hall and finally the 6 bridges connecting Porto to Gaia over the Douro river, many of them providing an excelent view to the river.

  • Pavilhão Rosa Mota, A multi purpose pavilion with nice gardens to rest which is calledalso known as "Palácio de Cristal". Nearby there is the Museu Romantico, a house where the king of Italy stayed while on exile. Also don't forget to see the views to the sea.
  • Livraria Lello,", near Praça dos Leões. It's an old Bookshop, with an amazing interior, where you can also have a coffee.
  • Soares dos Reis. for Art.
  • Photography Museum.
  • Fundação de Serralves. A contemporary Art Gallery, with a huge garden.

In photography the golden hour is the first and last hour of sun when lighting is softer and warm in hue. In landscape photography, warm hues are considered desirable to 'enhance' the colours. On this day, the sky was quite stunning and this shot doesn't pay justice to that beauty but i guess it's close enough :) The City of the Bridges The city of Porto is aka The City of the Bridges. There are 6 bridges crossing the Douro river. This is the Arrábida Bridge, it's arch is about 52m tall and the plate rises up to 70m above water level. Not my favorite bridge in Porto but it looks quite nice on this one :)

There is so much going on here, i just can tell you all about it. it did remind me of Escher as soon as i looked at it.The complexity created by all the details grabbs my attention and the need to figure it out. Escher is one of my favorite graphic artists. View this large here static.flickr.com/64/198932400_f987ceada1_o.jpg
