walk this way
Made by Jibbo
Taken along Pontocho, one of Kyoto's traditional nightlife districts. It's a narrow street with lots of geisha houses, traditional tea houses and restaurants. Some of the places are very reasonably priced, others cost a fortune (there is a river just the other side of the buildings, so some have outdoor dining areas). When I went geisha spotting I went to Gion (another very old part of Kyoto), but geishas have also been present in Pontocho since the 1500s, and can often be seen at night walking along here.

Dragon fountain at Heian Jingu
Made by Elia Diodati
This dragon fountain on the grounds of Heian Jingu not only provides holy water for Shinto acolytes, but it is also a symbol of the Imperial edict that created this shrine during the Meiji Restoration.
