Topsy-Turvy
Made by appaIoosa
La Ronde amusement park, Montreal You won`t ever get me on a ride like this. I like my stomach contents to be where they should be, thank you very much. However, for my daughter`s birthday, I took her and her adventurous girlfriend to the La Ronde amusement park for the whole day, and just let them loose! They went on every ride - including the one you see here, while I stood back in the shade of an obliging poplar tree, and snapped this pic. As I looked on in bemusement and reflection, I couldn`t help but think there was a time when I was just as fearless (and had a much stronger stomach), but now I`m just as happy to watch kids scream with fright and joy while having the living daylights scared out of them on rides such as this - and to capture it on film ;-) Built during expo67, La Ronde is the only remaining remnant from that area. Recently it was sold by the local government to the six-flags consortium. Web site: www.laronde.com/en/

Tall Ship Niagra
Made by montreal_bunny
Today was beginning of the Tall Ships visit to Montreal. They will be here until the 18th of September and if you are in the Montreal area, head down to the Old Port and check them out! This one is my favorite - Niagra. I think her rigging and sails are breathtaking. This historical brig is a perfect replica of the original model of 1813. It testifies of the conflict which set the United States against the British Empire over maritime law. The Niagara’s mission is to re-enact this famous armed conflict and to promote maritime traditions in the Pennsylvania and Lake Erie regions. For . Today's challenge - Beginning

Polish fireworks at the Jacques Cartier bridge in Montreal
Made by Eyesplash
These were taken from my friends balcony in Montreal. I did not have a tripod, but did make use of my monopod by tie wrapping it to his balcony and using my cable release. I had so many experiences while away this time, that it may take quite some time to get through all the photos I did take. I thought I was working today, but my boss had a miscommunication problem with my emails while away and scheduled someone else. That's ok because it gives me a little more time to meet up with my friend Denise before she leaves for France in a couple of days (sob).

A Bridge to Sunset (HDR)
Made by Jonathan Grenier
Located just below the Jacques-Cartier bridge, this strange little house (in fact the Graig Pumping Station) makes for a nice foreground to this great sunset. It's a scene I've been meaning to shoot since I saw it on Flickr last year and I'm glad I finally got around to it. Took a while to find a nice angle, it's not an easy scene to shoot. I used Photomatix for the HDR, but more important still ColorEfex Pro to give the shot an almost surreal Soft Glow look. I love that effect.

The Pink Queen
Made by seamesse
2009 marks the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots of New York City, where an incident between police and customers of the Stonewall Inn escalated into violent demonstrations against the repressive laws of the time. Stonewall is widely regarded as a turning point in LGBT history, marking a new beginning in the struggle for equal rights for sexual minorities. This year's Pride celebrations in Montreal honoured the drag queens for their prominent role at Stonewall.

Tall Ship Pride of Baltimore II
Made by montreal_bunny
If I had to choose a second favorite Tall Ship, this one might be it. Maybe. It's difficult to decide because they are all so beautiful! Respecting the specifications of a topsail schooner from the time of the War of 1812, its mission is to commemorate and promote marine innovations arising from this conflict and from the famous Baltimore Clippers, a fast sailing fleet of two-mast ships used to transport merchandise along American coastline.

Tall Ships at night
Made by montreal_bunny
260/365 - 09/17/2011 Tonight we went to see the Tall Ships and fireworks at the Old Port. The weather had turned pretty chilly for a September night so it wasn't as crowded as last year, but there was still a large turnout. Hopefully they come back next year because they really are a sight to see, especially when they are coming in with all the sails raised. Have a look to see what I mean.

Foggy Bridge
Made by Patrick Brodeur 23
Took this during a walk under the Jacques-Cartier Bridge last spring on a foggy where we could barely see 15 meters ahead. Fun (or not) fact : A few weeks after, the body of a young girl who had been missing for over 10 years was found under the bridge. Big Ol'Bridge
Made by caribb
The Jacques Cartier Bridge looking very big and immense as I pass under it on my way home... Looking pretty good considering it opened only in 1940 and carries nearly 100,000 cars per day. I guess it will be 70 years old next year. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Cartier_Bridge

International des feux - Canada - La Ronde
Made by Craig James White
This is a messier bunch than the Portugal shots: we watched from rue Notre-Dame below the Pont Jacques-Cartier from where we watched on Wednesday night. With no tripod again, I had a harder time getting support for the camera, and there were no reflections in the water to add light. Still, some pretty cool effects amongst these...

Inside the Metro tunnel
Made by blork
We were between stations Berri-UQAM and Jean-Drapeau when there was a power outage and the Metro shut down. After about 15 minutes they opened the doors and evacuated the cars. We walked about 400 metres through the tunnel and came out at Jean-Drapeau (which, at 7:00PM is essentially the middle of nowhere).

for FGR: a little bit of RED This is part of the long corridor going from the parking garage to the rest of the building where I work.. I've been walking inside all the buildings around the subway station since I started working there.. so I'm getting quite familiar with my underground surroundings.. ;)

Le Monstre - La Ronde

Wonderful old wooden coaster. 120 minute wait means we never went for a ride :( Here's another copy of my photo. blogues.cyberpresse.ca/laporte/2009/05/19/pourquoi-risque...

so beautiful, so pure, so innocent, such naive charm, you're doing everything right So sweet, so shimmering, such soothing eyes, you don't know how bad you're going to hurt me. Such a treasure, with sweet lips and caring eyes, you don't know how bad you're going to hurt me. ap2010

Going nowhere

Exiting La Ronde. Talk about putting a damper on the evening! This was taken from atop the Jacques Cartier bridge which we crossed on foot to get to downtown Montreal June 19 2011 - Recycled for Our Daily Topic: Vanishing Point

Driving above it all...
Made by caribb
This picture gives a bit of the sense of height of the Jacques Cartier Bridge. It's impressive and somewhat of a symbol of Montreal... but it's also a traffic hell at rush hour and has been a suicide jump off point for many people.
