Pont du Carrousel stretches across 168 meters of the River Seine, connecting auto and pedestrian traffic between Quai des Tuileries and the Quai Voltaire. Construction first began under the name Pont des Saints-Pères in 1831 by architect Antoine-Rémy Polonceau. On its inauguration in 1834, King Louis-Philippe renamed it Pont du Carrousel, because it opened on the Right Bank facing the river frontage of the Palais du Louvre near the . Polonceaus combined the relatively new material of cast iron with timber. The arch design broke from the period's trend towards subspension bridges because the necessary towers would have obscured views. Louis-Messidor-Lebon Petitot's conservative stone allegorical sculptures--representing Industry, Abundance, The City of Paris and The Seine--were mounted at each of the four corners. In 1906 the former wooden structures were replaced with cast iron. In 1930, the bridge's headroom was deemed insufficient for river transportaation, and it was replaced, save Petitot's sculptures, with an entirely new structure by architects Malet et Lang fifty meters downstream. The new bridge of reinforced concrete still crosses the river in three arches.

Quand le film refuse d'avancer... cela donne une surimpression totalement involontaire. Est-ce l'âme vaporeuse de Paris qui rôde sur la Seine ? When the film refuses to advance... this is an accidental double-exposure.

Paris has some of the most ornate bridges in the World. This is a sculpture in metal on a bridge crossing the Seine.
