After spending the day along the coast (started in Santa Monica and ended in Malibu) I ended the night in downtown LA around midnight... not the best place to be in when its that late but what the hell. While I spent the afternoon in Malibu I passed by Pepperdine where they had a breathtaking 9/11 tribute up. The entire front garden (its really just a field of grass) was completely covered in American flags. It was literally one of those GASP moments. The second I saw the flags I pulled over and whipped out my camera. For anyone curious: www.pepperdine.edu/911-heroes/

Re-purposed military chopper, Corral Fire

After the huge fires in October, a number of military helicopters in southern California were re-purposed to help fight the fires. They were crudely painted with bright numbers, and were pretty visible at the Corral Fire in Malibu in November. Here one lifts off after refueling at Pepperdine Campus.

I drove past Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA and they have 3000 flags on their front lawn to commemorate the September 11 attacks in New York. One flag for each victim. When you stand in the middle it's seemingly enless in both directions.
