The Paulinskill Viaduct (also known as the Hainesburg Viaduct) was built by the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad. It is part of what is known as the Lackawanna Cutoff which shortened the time and grades between Scranton, Pennsylvania and Hoboken, New Jersey. It crosses the Paulins Kill also called the Paulinskill River. It was completed in 1910 and opened on Christmas Eve 1911. At the time it was the largest reinforced concrete structure in the world until 1915 when it was surpassed by the Tunkhannock Viaduct. It is 1,100 feet long with a 115 clearance above the river bed below.

Paulinskill Viaduct on the Lackawanna Cutoff of the Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad. At one time the longest concrete railroad bridge in the world, until surpassed by the Lackawanna on Tunkhannock Viaduct in Nicholson PA. Abandoned since the 1980s. At ground level, the New York Susquehanna & Western and Lehigh and New England Railroads passed underneath. Hainesburg Station was just on the other side of the bridge. To the south (behind camera) about a 1/2 mile was Hainesburg Junction. See my Swartswood Junction set.

I love this shot just because it captures so many levels... and at the bottom of this shot... it's just as mysterious as the human soul. Yeah... i had to extend a wee bit off the edge to get this shot... but it was worth it.

This was one of the pictures I took after I fell and broke my camera... at this point, it was too dark to notice my lens had broken. The strange light has nothing to do with the lens... but the fact that it's not in focus

I didn't have much time to react to this shot... giving it the blurriness... but I thought this archway was awesome and wanted to get Tanya and Steph walking through

I just happened to look down and see everyone's foot next to each other... and to me it symbolized just how relaxed we were... just hanging out with no worries.

Tanya and I sitting at the edge of the Viaducts. I decided to experiment with manual focusing and self portraits... difficult! I might stick with auto for this.
