Fogão! This afternoon is the second game of the two-stage final of the Carioca Football Championship (the State Championship). My team, Botafogo, who were champions last year, drew 2x2 with Flamengo in a match full of emotion last weekend. Let's hope today's game is as exciting, with Botafogo winning, of course. The white estrela solitária (or lone star) is one of the most traditional symbols of Botafogo Football and Rowing Club, dating back to the inauguration of Botafogo Regatta Club in 1891. Supposedly the star represents the Morning Star, or Venus, which was the first star to be seen in the sky on the day of the Rowing Club's foundation. When Botafogo Rowing and Football clubs were merged in 1942, the Lone Star was adopted as a symbol by the Football Club. The four gold stars represent the 4 consecutive State Championships from 1932 to 1935.
