1916 Leaders

1916 Leaders
Made by National Library of Ireland
Illustrated poster of some of the most well-known participants in the 1916 Rising. Many of these images were also individually printed and sold as postcards at the time. All but three shown here died in the Easter Rising, or were executed shortly thereafter. Thomas Ashe was on hunger strike in Mountjoy jail when he died on 25 September 1917, following a botched force feeding operation carried out by an inexperienced doctor. Countess Markievicz (rather incongruously pictured here in a glamourous evening gown) was released from prison under the general amnesty of June 1917. Released around the same time was Éamon de Valera, very unusually named here as Ed. (Edward) de Valera. Spot the glaring error that is repeated over and over throughout this poster? Size: 80 x 42.3 cm Date: ca. 1917 Printed by: Powell Press, 22 Parliament Street, Dublin NLI Ref.: EPH POL/1910-20 (A1 Size) Reproduction rights owned by the National Library of Ireland

Exchange Dublin is a new collective arts centre in Temple Bar, Dublin run entirely by young people and holding discussions, gigs, visual arts and performance. Most projects originate from the autonomous “Exchange Groups” that use the space as a hub for their activity. Representatives from these groups form the general Exchange Dublin Collective that programmes and coordinates events in the space. All work is voluntary and no one is paid. Exchange Dublin is a non-alcohol space and events are open to people of all ages.

I didn't report

I didn't report
Made by FungeP
This is a snapshot of the recent report in to the Catholic Church Child Sex Abuse scandal. Just at the edge of Temple Bar pages from the report have been plastered up as an installation. It truly is shocking and shocking that even a Chief Superintendent of the Garda didn't report allegations. Do any of these people have an idea of the hurt and damage they have caused and any shame ofr their role in it?

Temple Bar is an area on the south bank of the River Liffey in central Dublin, Ireland. Unlike the areas surrounding it, Temple Bar has preserved its medieval street pattern, with many narrow cobbled streets. It is promoted as Dublin's cultural quarter and has a lively nightlife that is popular with tourists.

Summer Rain

On an otherwise beautiful day in Dublin the skies opened for about ten minutes and it lashed rain. When it stopped the sun reappeared and the shine from the cobble stones was spectacular. I took this while it was raining but the sun had started to shine again. Camera: Nikon F401x Film:FUJICOLOR SUPERIA 200

Across the street from Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, stood a large group of thusly clad individuals reading newspapers, smoking and chatting on cell phones. It happened that they were shooting a new BBC television show called The Tudors that day and everyone seemed to be on a bit of break.

Taken at the entrance to Dublin Castle. The scales of justice on right and Clock Tower on left. Since the statue of Justice is facing inwards towards the Castle citizens of Dublin joked that 'Justice had turned her back on the city'.

Porterhouse Temple Bar - HDR

This photo was taken of 5 exposures from -2 to +2 and then tonemapped with Photomatix. I like tonemapping but many people think the photo then looks like a painting or fake. I do like it, but I need to go easy on the tonemapping ;-)

Sorry, beer mats. =p It may just be Anchor, but I kinda had a fanboy moment where I wanted to tell everyone around me about Anchor. The colors reflected along the top are the medallions from The Porterhouse's own beers.

This photo was taken from 3 exposures. Very light on the tonemapping, but you can see through the windows when the sun was shining in. Normally either the inside would be too dark, or the windows would be overexposed.

This is a semi HDR photo. All I did was increase the exposure on the right side of the frame so that the whole pub was nicely lit.
