Scharzenberský Palác, Schwarzenbergpalace Build between 1545 -1576 The Palace was built between 1545 and 1576 for the Prague Count Jan Lobkowicz the Younger. Hence it was originally known as the Lobkowicz Palace. Designed by the Italian master builder Agostino Galli, the palace is one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture in Prague The remarkable sgraffito decorations on the wall give the impression that the walls are built out of large pyramid shaped stones. Inside, the ceilings are decorated with magnificent 16th century frescoes depicting classical scenes. Schwarzenberg Palace In 1593 the emperor confiscated the palace after he sent the owner, Jirí z Popelu Lobkovicz to prison on charges of betrayal and fraud. The Palace was handed over to Petr Vok z Rožmberka. After being in the possession of several other owners, the complex was obtained by the Schwarzenberg family, Castle Square facadeafter whom the Palace is now named. They owned the palace from 1719 until 1948. In 2007, after a five year long restoration, the building reopened to the public as a department of the National Gallery. The museum's exhibitions cover late renaissance art from Bohemia, both sculptures and paintings

The Glorious Prague

Prague Castle is one of the biggest castles in the world (according to Guinness Book of Records it is the biggest ancient castle) at about 570 meters in length and an average of about 130 meters wide. It dates back to the 9th century (870) and represents virtually every architectural style of the last millennium. Prague Castle includes Gothic St Vitus Cathedral, Romanesque Basilica of St. George, a monastery and several palaces, gardens and defense towers. The neighbourhood around Prague Castle is called Hradčany.

9/365 My flatmate and I went to see the Literature Night(http://www.nocliteratury.cz/2009/en/praha/homepage). It was totally awesome (I wanna buy like 4 books now. But fortunately a few relatives has birthday soon so I´m gonna use the opportunity to get the books and read them later. Hehe.) and on the way around the most significant Prague sights (where the readings took place) we went by the Charles bridge and well...who´d resist taking a shot :). I LOVE Prague!

Terminator 3, Fuji Acros, Caffenol-C-M This very impressive cathedral hovers over Prague Castle. So where has Terminator 3 been this whole time? Well, Terminator 3 suffered a malfunction early in the trip, so there are very few T3 photos. Most of my photos of Prague Castle were affected by the malfunction. This one survived. If the building looks impressive in this photo, it was.

We saw a lot of things in Prague that seemed to be emulating Art Nouveau, fin de siècle / belle epoque Paris (very little that we seemed to get pictures of, but there you go), so it was fitting that this tower looked like a copy of le Tour Eiffel.

... a day makes. The following morning was beautiful and sunny, so we took the metro to Malostranská and walked up to the castle and cathedral. There was a lot of steps, so I thought I should record Angela's ascent for posterity :-)

Photos shot on the old (1970s vintage) manual Nikkormat SLR camera, digitized to PictureCD when developed back in 2002. Not very high resolution scans, but then not always very high quality photos in the first place. Oh well.

Old (17th Century, I think) archway leading into the castle, built into the new building. Quite a lot of this seems to have been done in the castle, and it generally works quite well.

At the entrance to the castle in Prague. They really were stupidly large flagpoles. And without anything to explain or justify their presence.
