Seri Perdana, the Residence of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, dubbed by many as “Mahligai” in Malay, meaning “Celestial Palace”, is located in Precinct 10, Putrajaya, the administrative capital of the country. Construction began in 1997 and was completed in 1999. It was built during the reign of Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. The original cost of building the residence was Ringgit 24 million as disclosed by Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz, then Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in 2005. Mohd Nazri also added that it cost Ringgit 2.9 million to maintain per annum and in the year 2005 alone, Ringgit 15.8 million was spent on renovations. {source: malaysiakini.com} The Seri Perdana complex, whilst not as big as the Forbidden City of China, is definitely bigger that the White House of USA.
