Organized in 1695 during the reign of William and Mary, Christ Church was built between 1727 and 1754 when George II was king. George Washington, Francis Hopkinson, Robert Morris, Benjamin Franklin, and Betsy Ross all worshipped here. Jefferson also worshipped here on occasion. The church's steeple, at 196-feet high is to this day a visible landmark from many parts of the city. It is referred as the 200-foot steeple by their guides.
