Memphis Belle X nose art

This is the art on the starboard side; as we'll see the nose art on the port side is a little different. The original Memphis Belle was, of course, a famous B-17F Flying Fortress which was the first US Army Air Force bomber to complete 25 missions (a complete combat tour in the European theater in World War II). Apparently there is something of a tradition that some USAF aircraft bear the name Memphis Belle. In addition to the B-17F (original), the name has been borne by an F-105D (picture at , a General Dynamics FB-111 Aardvark, 2 Boeing B-52 Stratofortresses (one is still in service, though no longer bearing the name), and a Lockheed C-141 Starlifter. This aircraft, the Memphis Belle X, is the current holder of that name, and is in service with the Tennessee Air National Guard, based at Memphis International Airport in Memphis, TN..

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (May 3, 2010) Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Gary Roughead answers questions from Sailors and their families at Naval Support Activity Mid-South in Millington, Tenn. Roughead is in Millington to get a first-hand look at damage sustained from flooding May 1st and 2nd and to hear directly from Navy personnel and their families who were displaced by the floodwaters. Two days of rain dumped more than 14 inches in the area, causing a levee to become overrun, flooding the base and surrounding community. The base is closed to all but mission-essential employees until further notice. Naval Support Activity Mid-South hosts several commands, including Navy Personnel Command and Commander, Navy Recruiting Command. MILLINGTON, Tenn. (May 5, 2010) Chief Petty Officer Jason Reynolds helps his neighbors pack their household goods into a storage trailer at Naval Support Activity Mid-South in Millington, Tenn. during flood recovery operations. The base was closed to residents and non-mission essential personnel after two days of rain dumped more than 14 inches in the area, causing a drainage ditch on the east side of the base to spill over and flood parts of the base.
