Marr Residence
Made by daryl_mitchell
This home was built for Alexander Marr in 1884. It was one of several houses requisitioned as part of a field hospital in May 1885 to treat the wounded from the Battles of Fish Creek and Batoche during the North-West Rebellion. Marr was a stonemason who built Saskatoon's first permanent school, the Little Stone School, at Broadway Avenue and 11th Street, now relocated to the University of Saskatchewan grounds. An addition greatly increased the original size of the house, which has a wood frame, a mansard roof and dormer windows. The property is owned by the city and is a municipal heritage property. It is the oldest building in Saskatoon on its original site.

Trounce House
Made by daryl_mitchell
Believe it or not, this ramshackle old shed is actually Saskatoon's oldest building. Built in 1883, this is the last remaining house of the original six from the temperance colony founded by John Lake. In 1920 the house was moved to the back of the lot and converted into a garage while at the front, the Gustin Residence was built. In 1989 both buildings were designated municipal heritage properties. There is legitimate concern about the building's condition, and it is hoped that funding for restoration will be made available.

Fireworks
Made by daryl_mitchell
After the paper lanterns floated downstream, a spectacular fireworks display was set off from the Victoria Bridge. While most of my photos were blurry, this one is good enough to get an idea of what it was like. It was one of the best fireworks displays in Saskatchewan that I've ever seen, and a great way to celebrate Saskatoon's centennial.

Five Corners Tower
Made by daryl_mitchell
This condominium building has a checkered past. Construction originally started in the 1980s but stopped when the original developers went bankrupt. Several others attempted to complete the half-finished building but also ran into financial difficulty. The tower was finally finished in the mid 1990s, some ten years after construction began.

Broadway Theatre
Made by daryl_mitchell
The Broadway Theatre is a community-owned independent cinema and performance theatre. Built in 1946, it is Saskatoon's premiere venue for arthouse film. It was a key player in the rejuventation of Broadway in the 1990s.
