After the reception, most of us headed over to Barney's parents' house for some menudo. (I had a sip of the soup; even partly drunk I knew I didn't want stomach.) Several of us hatched a plan for the night--the after party, then an after after party at Taco Palenque, then swimming, then a couple hours sleep before the brunch. We made it through the Taco Palenque part, arriving around 4am. Nick had an early flight, so he went back to La Hacienda. Once he left, the plan fell apart... or maybe because we were all super tired. This was the third trip to Taco Palenque for me and Benson. I already miss it. I went to a place downtown (San Jose) today and ordered a chicken quesadilla. It wasn't anywhere near as good as Taco Palenque's...

56/365: A Study in Abstraction. February 25, 2010. This is the wall of the Laredo Public Library. It's very colorful. I was in the parking lot at LPL because I guessed-correctly-that the library had a free public wireless network. The location where we were giving today's workshop wasn't wired (and I couldn't hack into any of the wifi networks I could pick up), so after lunch, we stopped in at LPL ... and all three of us pulled out our laptops. In the car. And while a colleague was finishing up with her e-mail, I snapped the very colorful outside of the library. It's a very colorful library. .


Webb County Courthouse (Laredo, Texas)

This courthouse was erected in 1909 in Renaissance Revival style. Its architect was the accomplished Texas courthouse architect Alfred Giles. It is a very unique courthouse that today, I believe, handles more county business that court proceedings. The Webb County Justice Center, down the street, was built in 1992 and takes care of most Webb County court business. Though this courthouse is very neat, Laredo is probably my least favorite county seat in the United States, at least of the 800 plus that I have been to so far. Laredo is the thirteenth largest city in Texas.

Dodds Motel, Laredo Texas. My familys name was Dodds, so they must have stopped to snap a picture when they saw the sign. Picture was printed with 'January 1961' on the border... don't know if that's when it was taken or just when it was developed. According to a newspaper story, the name changed to the Evelyn Motor Inn in about 1958. *** Much better scan . ***
