Sunny Container

This was my biggest container in 2006. In the center is a spike (cordyline), and around it are two of each: gazania (Talent Mix), verbena (Tukana Scarlet), salvia (Victoria Blue - flowered late), vinca minor (Illumination) and calibrachoa (Million Bells Celebration Plum). To my surprise, a sweet potato vine from last year emerged and wound its way up the spike. I thought I had dug out the tuber, and was impressed that a piece of it had survived the winter in an exposed container with no insulation.
Night Drift

As the blizzard abated in the evening hours, I tried out one of my Xmas presents. I got a tabletop tripod and a full-size tripod for my camera, so I tried out the small one. Using the night setting and the timer, I finally got a clear night shot with no blurring. Note the waist high snow drift at the fence post.
Snowing Sideways

It might not be obvious from this picture, but the wind was so strong that the snow looked like it was coming in sideways. The drifts created by the wind blocked driveways, sidewalks and streets. Highways were closed because of whiteout conditions.
Hosta

My Blue Wedgwood (spelling is correct!) hosta is surrounding by yellow monkey flowers (mimulus) and johnny jump-ups (viola tricolor) that self-seeded and spread. I also stuck some Rainbow Mix coleus that I had left over in the ground around it.
New Year's Spread

Todd came up with quite a menu for our New Year's party. The number of food offerings doubled from this selection by the time all of our guests arrived.
