Meet Connie, one of the world's great dogs. She's 15 years old and weighs about 15 pounds. Her mom was a Shiba Inu, her dad a Basenji, and she was born into my friend Lisa's hand. She's silent, alert to any movement or indication that her companion is about to change direction. She doesn't fetch or any of that nonsense. She is just quietly dignified, devoted to Lisa, patient, and responsive.

Male Anna's Hummingbird. He is showing his finery to the female who is purched in the Himalayan Blackberry bush behind him. After his diving aerial display for the female he would then purch in the top of one of the blackberry bushes so she could see him. He would then flash the beautiful ruby color of his head and throat her way.

Female Anna's Hummingbird collects nesting materiel from last year's cattail. This should make for a fine nest. She then flys across the small lake to a thicket of wild roses where she is building her nest. She returns to the cattails every 15 to 30 minutes for more nesting materiels, this goes on through out the day.

This male Mallard is also about to land. All of his flight feathers are working on this windy day. The sun was unobscured by clouds. The wind was blowing at 15 mph from the southeast. All of the ducks were coming in to land from to west of my position which made for wonderful front lighting.

The light the past two days has been good, which allows the colors of the ducks to reproduce well in the images. Here a male pintail flies over looking to land in a small lake which is called Chinese Garden this lake lies to the north of where I am standing.

Male Northern Shoveler flaries as it makes a landing in the small lake called Chinese Garden. The area was once a garden plot used by Chinese immigrants in the past to grow vegetables. The garden area is now flooded and is excellent habitat for waterfoul.

Mallard fly by. One of the more common ducks in some parts of North America. Yet a attractive duck when seen in good light. This is one of the many low light days I have seen of late.
