Berlin S-Bahn Nordbahnhof
Made by budgetraveller
This was one of the 14 Geisterbahnhoefe (ghost stations), that between 1961 and 1989 have been closed to the passengers. This was because some stations belonging to West-Berlin lines crossed the territory of East-Berlin. All the gates were blocked by walls and only some men in Uniform of DDR could access there. Lights were always on and sometimes trains of the West made some symbolic-stops( keeping the doors closed, of course). When yesterday I found myself at Nordbahnhof and I realised that I was the only passenger waiting for a train I felt like that station was still a Geistesbahnhof. It felt the same as I were in one of the black and white pictures of Cold War period that I found in a magazine. I was completely alone and there was no kiosk, no advertisements: just these cold lights and a ghostly silence. Charming.

cross from church left in the death strip

They built the wall such that a church ended up in the death strip area. It was eventually destroyed and this cross is all that remains.

Tram terminus near Nordbahnhof

One could wonder why the tracks are not connected to the line in the back

New lettering in Helvetica-style
