I was walking through the park on the way to the Cloisters, dawdling and taking pictures, when a guy came by. He was kind of thick and wearing a baseball cap, and he said, trying to hit on me, that he wanted me to take a picture of him. I shrugged and gestured with the camera sure. So he took off his cap and shirt and deposited them with his bag in the water fountain I'd been shooting. He flexed. I took this photo and walked off laughing to myself. Why do guys need to take their shirts off in photos? He walked off, too, so I hung back taking pictures of flowers. His parting words to me were something about how my boyfriend was a lucky guy. I didn't even have to use the excuse, he must have just assumed from my disinterest that I was taken. I meandered down the road, and I came across a pair of girls walking in the opposite direction. Watch out, they warned me, there's a guy masturbating down there. What did he look like, I asked? He was white, wearing a baseball cap, and not fat but kind of big. I showed them the picture of the man on my camera screen. That's the guy, they said. I changed directions.
