This little town was originally named Monroe, Texas but in the 1930s when local area schools consolidated to form the school at this present-day community, the name New Deal (for Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal) was chosen for the school district. Eventually when Monroe applied for a post office the name of the town was changed to New Deal as well.
