this is a double-exposure HOLGA shot. In June 2005 there was a massive fire at a historical landmark building in Detroit. It was the Studebaker / Piquette building. It burned all night. I could watch the fire burn from my window which was only about a mile away. This building was sentimental to me. It was the first abandoned building that I ever went inside... thanks to one of my photo-geek friends, Vanessa. This was also one of her favorite buildings. It was an extremely hard fire to put out. So many firefighters risjked their lives to put out the blaze. The irony is- there was a church across the street from it. Where was god that night?

I saw a shot similiar in HOUR DETROIT magazine ( I have a subscription - excellent reading! ) , and figured I had to take my own version of it. The Fisher building was built in 1928 and was designed by Albert Kahn , who also designed the Cadillac Plaza ( the former GM World Headquarters ) - the archway that I am shooting from. They are located in the New Center area of Downtown Detroit.

The Fisher Building is sometimes called the city's largest art object. Designed by Albert Kahn for the seven Fisher Brothers (Frederick, Charles, William, Lawrence, Edward, Alfred and Howard), the building was originally intended as one of three large projects in the New Center area (the others were a flanking twin and a massive tower), before the Depression curtailed their plans.

Best seen Large. This just blew me away. The ceiling was strung with thousands of wires holding thousands and thousands of sparkling discs. I stood and looked for the longest time. It's enchanting and mesmerizing.
