View From The Monument
Made by Dave Smith
360 degree panorama from the top of Nelsons Monument. Some stitching errors, and the edge of the Nelson Monument balcony keeps cropping up unusually, due to poor photo-taking skills on my part. Look closely and you'll be able to find The Plesance, and the four purple legs of the upturned purple cow that is The Udderbelly Large (4982 x 1024) Huge (12738 x 2621)

Disgrace
Made by Lucky Poet
The National Monument, intended to be a replica Parthenon on Calton Hill, and a kind of Scottish Westminster Abbey, for the fallen of the Napoleonic Wars and a burial place for the usual great and good types. They ran out of money, partly due to the first rate building standards of the thing. Having seen drawings of what was planned, I think it looks better as it is, with added historical resonance...

Edinburgh Old and New

Edinburgh Royal Mile and New Scottish Parliament (Apr 2006). This featured in my 2008 Scotland Calendar. www.travelteamimages.com

Nelson Through National
Made by E&C Photos
A view of the Nelson Monument through the National Monument. In the past the National Monument was called Edinburgh's Shame, though I doubt many think of it that way any more.
