Join me on Google+ Type L for the large view. The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) (simplified Chinese: 国家大剧院; literally: National Grand Theatre), and colloquially described as The Egg, is an opera house in Beijing, People's Republic of China. The Centre, an ellipsoid dome of titanium and glass surrounded by an artificial lake, seats 5,452 people in three halls and is almost 12,000 m² in size. It was designed by French architect Paul Andreu. Construction started in December 2001 and the inaugural concert was held in December 2007 (source: Wikipedia) My Dear Friends, I am back from Beijing, unfortunately I did not have much time for blue hour photography. I managed to get that one, as well as a shot of the Olympic Stadium which will follow. I will try to catch up with your streams before I fly to another destination next week! :-)

National Center For The Performing Arts (Beijing Opera), Beijing, China. 1999 - 2007. Architect: Paul Andreu associated with ADPi and BIAD. Construction area: 219,400 m². Cost: € 300 million The National Center For The Performing Arts, which covers 150,000 square meters is located on Chang'an Avenue in Beijing. The Great Hall of the People between the National Grand Theater in Tiananmen Square. The building consists of an opera house (2416 seats), a concert hall (2017 seats) and two theaters (one of 1040 seats) included in a titanium and glass shell which houses the public space . The glass opens the building like a curtain that is taken away, shows that it contains: theaters, walking areas and exposure. The titanium protects and covers, creates shadow areas more secret. The cultural complex is designed as a city of theaters, an island in a transparent artificial body of water surrounded by a new urban park.

Egg-cellent Building

OK, so I know I have a few photos of this building already, but given the conditions last night, I had no choice but to go back. There was a little wind about, but over 30S, the water surrounding the egg smoothed out nicely. Initially, I planned to go to the outer edge of the forbidden city (again) to get some night shots, but all lights were off.... This was nearby, and an old favourite... Personally, I think my best in this location. The egg is the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing. A relatively new, and modern structure, surrounded by Beijings oldest government buildings, and the forbidden city.... Little post processed used. Taken in RAW, a slight straighten & the usual RAW settings required. Canon 5DMKII | Canon 17-40L | 19mm | f/16 | 30 Sec | ISO 320 | Tripod

After visiting The Egg several weeks ago, I decided that a return visit was needed at dusk (last time was night already). Personally, I think this one is my favourite. The Egg, is officially known as the National Centre for Performing Arts. This image is NOT HDR, it is a long exposure taken with my trusty B+W 110 3.0 (10 Stop) filter. Canon 40D | Sigma 10-20mm @ 10mm | f13 | 202 Sec | ISO100 Little processing has been done, apart from a slight crop on the right, and some noise reduction in the sky. The colour comes from a combination of the dusky sky, and the slight colour cast given by the filter. It was a very windy day, and I was very happy with how the water smoothed out!

Ok, so the title is't 100% fitting, as you can't actually see the sun itself.... But I've been to this place before and can't call it anything egg related again....... Finally managed to get out with my camera, albeit for about 30 mins when the conditions looked good.... Taken in Beijing, at the National Centre for Performing Arts - otherwise known as the egg - there's a few others of this place in my photostream somewhere.... If you look on top of the building, there is actually a guy walking across it, he's a member of the cleaning team, the rest were abseiling over the other side somewhere!

Back in the West, but here's a shot i took this weekend in Beijing. I made the most of a rare clear sky to take a shot of the futuristic Beijing Opera building, officially called National Centre for the Performing Arts (or National Grand Theatre in Chinese 国家大剧院). You enter the building by an hallway that goes underneath the artificial lake that surrounds it. And it's no surprise that the locals call it The Egg! I have reprocessed the image and I think the new image is much better. Please add comments, any constructive critique will be appreciated! or HDR image of the Beijing Drama Centre reflected in the frozen pond that surrounds the centre. Jan 2009 The skies in Jan are devoid of any highlights due to winter haze/pollution, and this was taken about 5pm. I used a 18-200 Canon lens and could not go back any further because of the layout of the area, hence the tight cropping.

..on water, it makes it easier for the brakes! This is the full view of the Beijing Opera building I posted last week in a peek preview - only half. I had to show the full circle, it's just too photogenic ;-) Taken with my trusted old D80 (+sigma 10-20 of course) Nikon D80 | Sigma 10-20@10mm | ƒ10 | ISO200 | Handheld | HDR -2/0/+2exp | Explore #28 www.SergioAmiti.com |

The last of my Egg photos to upload to Flickr (until I go back again ;-)). The Egg as it is known locally, is Beijing's National Centre for Performing Arts. Located close to the Forbidden City, and TianAnMen Square. This shot was taken at dusk, when the sky turned a great purple colour. Taken with a Cokin ND2 Grad Filter. A morning at the theatre...went there with a group of visiting architects from Switzerland. The interior space is amazing yet unique. The project took abt 10yrs from planning to completion. The huge glass bay draws reference to unfolding theater curtains and invites the visitor to enter. Its structure is made of sections of abt. 6x50cm forged plain steel!
