INDIAN MONGOOSE (Herpestes auropunctatus)- sorry for uploading this x rated pictures of this small animal, but as i got this sequence in my garden i just tried to share with you friends.there is just one reason to view this as creation of nature .This small animal is basically friend of man it hunts in day for food .It eats almost anything it can catch ,such as rats, mice, snakes, scorpions and other insects. It is useful to man because it keeps pests such as rats at bay and it has been introduced to into areas outside its native range for this purpose. Females may produce 2 to 4 young a year, after a gestation of about 7 weeks. The new born are hairless and blind, and mother carries them in her mouth.

Sun Bird

..Not so clean shot as i had desired, but i loved the tones on this one, so l am sharing this with you. The sunbirds and spiderhunters are a family, Nectariniidae, of very small passerine birds. There are 132 species in 15 genera. The family is distributed throughout Africa, southern Asia and just reaches northern Australia. Most sunbirds feed largely on nectar, although they will also take insects, especially when feeding young. Fruit is also part of the diet of some species. Their flight is fast and direct on their short wings. Plain Tiger Butterfly

Plain Tiger Butterfly
Made by Shantanu Deo
Danaus chrysippus, known as the Plain Tiger or African Monarch, is a common butterfly which is widespread in Asia and Africa. It belongs to the Danainae (Milkweed butterflies) subfamily of the brush-footed butterfly family, Nymphalidae. It is believed to be one of the first butterflies to be used in art. A 3500 year old Egyptian fresco in Luxor features the oldest illustration of this species. The Plain Tiger can be considered the archetypical danaine of India. Accordingly, this species has been studied in greater detail than other members of its subfamily occurring in India. ( Src : Wikipedia) Camera: Nikon D3100 Lens : 70-300 VR

“Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it” Camera : Nikon D3100 Lens :70-300 VR This one is a white throated Kingfisher. This is a large kingfisher, 28 cm in length. The adult has a bright blue back, wings and tail. Its head, shoulders, flanks and lower belly are chestnut, and the throat and breast are white. The large bill and legs are bright red. The flight of the White-throated Kingfisher is rapid and direct, the short rounded wings whirring. In flight, large white patches are visible on the blue and black wings. Sexes are similar, but juveniles are a duller version of the adult.

Traffic jam in Nagpur

Traffic jam in Nagpur

I spotted this pair waiting patiently at a set of traffic lights in Nagpur, a city in central India. They were looking on intently as another donkey britally bullied its smaller companion. After several minutes of sustained assault, the unfortunate victim finally snapped, turned on its assailant and chased it, braying loudly, into the middle of the busy road where it proceeded to unleash its retaliation by biting the perpetrator's ankles. A donkey-themed David and Goliath for modern India... See my photostream for a frame-by-frame record of how the drama unfolded.

Buddha at Diksha Bhumi

Buddha at Diksha Bhumi
Made by Koshyk
Diksha (Deeksha) Bhumi or Dhamma Chakra Stupa, near Nagpur in Central India is a holy place where thousands of followers of Buddhism gather annually. Dr. Amedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution of India initiated mass conversion of the downtrodden sections of society (euphemistically called Harijans or more recently Dalits) at this place in 1956. The stupa itself is a spectacular 120 feet high dome made of marble, granite and the pink Dholpur stone. This blue clad image of the Buddha caught my attention during a visit.

Lack of patience and No safety !

Lack of patience and No safety !

After discussing for few minutes whether to cross the tracks this way or use the level crossing just one km down the road, they decided to do the former. I suggested to use the level crossing (seen in the background) as the signal was yellow on both tracks. It took them almost 2 minutes to cross and a train could have easily approached without being in the view within that time. I had my safe distance and camera ready regardless. And then it is railway's and LP's (engineers') fault when any mishap occurs of this sort.

Donkey David v Goliath, Act 3

Donkey David v Goliath, Act 3
Made by scotch egg
I photographed this donkey (the larger, paler one) picking on its smaller, weaker companion from a hotel window in Nagpur, central India. After suffering several minutes of sustained biting, the aggrieved beast finally snapped, turned on its bullying cousin and chased it, braying loudly, into the middle of a busy road where it then proceeded to bite its bewildered tormentor's ankles. A pleasing end to a cautionary tale.

The critically endangered Red-headed Vulture [Explored]

The critically endangered Red-headed Vulture [Explored]
Made by Tarique Sani
This species has suffered an extremely rapid population reduction in the recent past which is likely to continue into the near future, probably largely as a result of feeding on carcasses of animals treated with the veterinary drug diclofenac, perhaps in combination with other causes. For this reason it is classified as Critically Endangered.

From my last trip to India in Jan 2011. This is a tropical Asian bird found mainly in certain parts of India and China. I spotted this bird by accident in our yard one day while I was playing with my brother's camera. The bird was in the shade against bright background. This was one of the better shots in the series.

I am happy with the performance of this lens so far, have used it only for 45 minutes yesterday though. The colors are good, specially green. Sharp and spot on at F4
