The Museumsquartier (MQ) is a 60,000 m˛ large area in the 7th district of the city of Vienna, Austria; it is the eighth largest cultural area in the world^citation needed. The Museumsquartier contains . The Museumsquartier contains Baroque buildings as well as Modern architecture by the architects Laurids and Manfred Ortner (Ortner & Ortner). The renovation of the former court stables began in April 1998. Three years later, the Museumsquartier opened in two stages (June and September 2001). The total cost of the construction was two billion euros.

Another shot of the fairly stunning interior of Vienna's Museum of Modern Art. Here you can see the banner for the exhibition - China - Facing Reality - which, while striking and occasionally disturbing, generally failed to move us. The other featured attraction - films by Keren Cytter - were absolutely horrid, some of least effective and affective art I've ever come across. Anyway, the building was great - really fun to explore.

Cameras weren't allowed in the galleries of this fascinating museum, so I only managed to grab a shot of some interior elements of the building itself. The museum's collection is focused on modern Austrian art, and in particular has a huge and utterly captivating collection of works by Egon Schiele, whom I knew little about before my visit (Libby was already a big fan).

MUMOK (= Museum MOderner Kunst) is part of the vast MuseumsQuartier complex. Loved the building, wasn't as taken with the programming (which, admittedly, was adventurous, just not necessarily in a way that registered with either of us).
