One for the road
Made by Chris Beauchamp
This is my favourite artifact from the shoot. This canteen belonged to a Canadian in the First World War. If you look close, you'll see it says Canada, 49th Edmonton Regiment, XMAS 1916, and if you look at the large version, you can see that it was from Mommy, Betty & Charlie. (inscribed at the very bottom) This soldier was killed, but another soldier picked up the canteen and used it during the war. I like how each of these objects tells a story, albeit an incomplete one. I'm really enjoying this project. Shot for a project I'm doing for the Military Museums. UPDATE: Finished project is here: www.themilitarymuseums.com/files/pdf/2007AnnualReport.pdf Strobist info: One Vivitar 285HV shot through a piece of thin paper into impromptu light box made of same paper. I shot the flash on 1/4 for this shot, and triggered with my glitchy PC cord.

Pot shots

This German helmet recently turned up in a field on the Vimy ridge battlefield. As you can see, there are some pretty brutal holes in this thing: think entry and exit. Shot for a project I'm ding for the Military Museums. Finished project is here: www.themilitarymuseums.com/files/pdf/2007AnnualReport.pdf Strobist info: One Vivitar 285HV shot through a piece of thin paper into impromptu light box made of same paper. I shot the flash at about half for this shot, and triggered with my glitchy PC cord.

...in the book of this man's military service

These medals belonged to a soldier who served in the Sudan, the Boer War and the First World War. This is quite the service record. Shot for a project I'm doing for the Military Museums. Finished project is here: www.themilitarymuseums.com/files/pdf/2007AnnualReport.pdf Strobist info: One Vivitar 285HV shot through a piece of thin paper into impromptu light box made of same paper. The Remembrance Day Photo (that I didn't want to post)
Made by Sherlock77 (James)
A photo from Remembrance Day last month... Cute kids, cute hat, cute outfit, proudly wearing their red poppy for Remembrance Day... My first instinct was, nice photo but it seems too formulaic, certainly not a hard hitting journalistic-type photo... Perhaps the kind of photo that will generate lots of Flickr views, but does it show creativity? There were other photos I personally liked better that showed far more creativity, that took far more photographic instinct to recognize and capture, even if they weren't quite as popular...

The fallen
