Antiquarium in der Residenz München
Made by Maphi74

Founded by Albert V the house jewels of the Wittelsbach are today on display in the treasury (Schatzkammer), ten halls in the east wing of the Königsbau. The collection is one of the most important in the world and spans 1000 years from the early Middle Ages to Classicism. On display are royal insignia, crowns, swords, goblets, goldsmith work, rock crystal, ivory work, icons and numerous other treasures like precious tableware and toiletries. Among the exhibits are for example Emperor Charles the Bald's prayer-book (ca. 860), the altar-ciborium of Emperor Arnulf of Carinthia (ca. 890), the crown of the Empress Cunigunde, reliquary of the True Cross which belonged to the Emperor Henry II, a cross which belonged to Queen Gisela (all ca. 1000), the so-called Emperor Henry crown (ca. 1270), an English Queen's crown (ca. 1370; The oldest surviving crown of England) that came to the palatinian line of the house of Wittelsbach as dowry of the daughter of Henry IV., the famous Statuette of St George (Munich, ca. 1599), the insignia and orders of the Bavarian kings, including insignia of the Emperor Charles VII (1742), the Crown of Bavaria (1804), ceremonial swords and ruby jewelry which belonged to Queen Therese. A precious set of matching dishes served the French Empress Marie Louise during her journeys. Also Non-European art and craftwork, including Chinese porcelain, ivories from Ceylon and captured Turkish daggers are shown. - Wikipedia

München: Antiquarium (Residenz)
Made by zug55
This hall is the oldest room of the Munich Residence. At 66 meters long, it is one of the largest and and most lavish Renaissance interiors north of the Alps. Duke Albrecht V had it built from 1568 to 1571 for his collection of antique sculptures--which gave the Antiquarium its name. From 1581 to 1600, Duke Wilhelm V and his son Maximilian I transformed the Antiquarium into a banquet hall. They lowered the floor, erected a dais with a balustrade at one end (foreground) and installed a fireplace (opposite end). The wall and ceiling paintings date from the same period. The 16 pictures along the top of the vault are the work of the Munich court painter Peter Candid (aka Peter de Witt or Peter de Witte, (c1548–1628) and show allegories of Fame and Virtue in the form of seated female figures. The vaults above the windows and the window jambs are decorated with 102 views of towns, markets and palaces in the Duchy of Bavaria. They are surrounded ornamental decorations. The busts and other sculptures displayed in the Antiquarium include both original works of classical antiquity and Renaissance copies. Some formed part of Duke Albrecht's collection; others were added in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Allerheiligen Hofkirche

King Ludwig I had it built from 1826 to 1837 to designs by his court architect, Leo von Klenze. Largely destroyed in the Second World War, it was not re-opened to the public until the year 2003. Surviving parts of the original building were restored and missing sections carefully replaced. The interior was then refurbished in a simple modern style as a venue for concerts and other events. Made by -MARCO POLO-
(Wikipedia)

München: Residenz (Grottenhof)
Made by zug55
The Munich Residenz started in 1385 as a castle at the north-eastern corner of the town. It served as the seat of government and residence of the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings from 1508 to 1918. Beginning in 1583, Duke Wilhelm V built the Grottenhof (Grotto Courtyard), a gardened court next to the Antiquarium which takes its name from the grotto on the west façade of the Antiquarium, complete with fountain and shell decoration. It was inspired by Italian Renaissance gardens and designed by Friedrich Sustris.

München: Hofkapelle (Residenz)
Made by zug55
The Hofkapelle was erected as part of the large-scale remodelling and expansion of the Residenz undertaken by Duke Maximilian I in the early years of the 17th century. The choir was not completed until 1630. The Hofkapelle is dedicated to Virgin Mary. The magnificent high altar, probably designed by Hans Krumper, likewise focuses on the Virgin Mary. The main painting was created by Hans Werl in 1600 and shows the Virgin enthroned in glory on clouds surrounded by angels. The painting at the top depicts the Trinity.

München: Residenz (Brunnenhof)
Made by zug55
The Brunnenhof (Fountain Court) with its oblong octagonal shape is perhaps the most interesting of the ten courts at the Munich Residenz. It was used for tournaments and as a carriage entrance to the Residenz. It takes its name from the fountain (Brunnen) in the center, which is crowned by a bronze statue of Duke Otto I, the first duke of Bavaria from the Wittelsbach family. It was laid out during the reign of Duke Maximilian I (1573-1651).
