Mopti
Mopti is a city at the confluence of the Niger and the Bani in Mali, between Timbuktu and Sgou (1430'00" North, 412'00" West). The city lies on three islands linked by dykes: the New Town, the Old Town and Bani. As a result it is sometimes known as the "Venice of Mali".The market near the mosque in the old section of town, south of the harbor and the harbour itself are vibrant and bustling with life. The mosque itself is not very interesting, and unless you're Muslim you're not allowed inside.
