Montevideo -pron IPA: is the capital, largest city, and chief port of Uruguay. Given that it is more than twice as large as any other city in the country, it is considered a primate city. As of April 2006, Montevideo is ranked by Mercer Human Resource Consulting as the city in Latin America with the highest quality of life.

• Ciudad Vieja - Montevideo's Old Town. Enter through the portal called Puerta de la Ciudadela
• Plaza Independecia - the Independence Square at the end of the 18 de Julio ave.
• Palacio Salvo next to Plaza Independencia, once South America's highest buildings still dominates Montevideo's skyline.
• Underneath the statue on Plaza Indepencia is the Mausoleo de Artigas. Faint red light, an urn, one tourist and two guards. It makes you wonder what the latter are doing when you leave.
• National History Museum - spread between five old historic houses, holds important bits of the country's history. Entrance: free.
• The sexual diversity monument, erected in 2005, is located on Policia Vieja St., between Plaza de la Constituición and Plaza Independencia. It reads "Honouring diversity is honouring life; Montevideo is for the respect of all identities and sexual orientations". It's South America's first monument dedicated to sexual diversity. Other places of interest to gay people include the Edificio Liberaij, where two gay Argentine bank robbers (featured in the 1998 movie Plata Quemada) died in 1965.

La monotonía de una tardecita gris de un 2 de noviembre, aburre las calles un tanto mojadas de este Montevideo. Las veredas para ocupar el espacio, juegan con papelitos y otros desechos humanos que arrastrados por una fuerte brisa de alerta naranja, dan mínimo color y vida a la solitaria ciudad. De pronto, las miradas friccionadas contra un vidrio empañado se aparecen en el horizonte pintado de color reflectante. Suben, se aprietan, se abrazan, se cruzan historias. Los de atrás duermen o se hacen los dormidos. Un poco más adelante viajan los sueños despiertos. La gente va y viene, se detiene y sigue. Casi un caótico orden rectangular sobre ruedas. El bus rompe con la gris soledad de asfalto; colorido, ruidoso, enorme; para, espera y se lleva las vidas cansadas, las historias de amantes, los resentidos, los locos como vos y yo, los pobres, los estudiantes. Entonces, en un lapso menor a un bostezo, la tardecita gris y las calles solitarias de un 2 de noviembre se alegran por un rato, rompen su rutina. Y sin más que un recuerdo fugaz de un sonido a la distancia, vuelve a entristecer esperando la próxima parada. El bus pasó, paró y se ha ido.

Hello Flickr! Its been sooo long, but first i must say, HAPPY NEW YEAR !! :D Hope you spent a great time with friends and family! Ok, so, im not gonna apologize because i have not uploaded anything in AGES, i have been so freaking busy, i got a job and im working 9 hours a day, sooooo i dont have a lot of free time. But since its new year, i figured i could do something... and i think this is the start of a 52 weeks project. OH YEAH again! well actually i think its less demanding than a 365, but im willing to take a challenge. Besides i need something that makes me take the camera again, i have been so photolazy lately. So... news, i got a new camera, a Canon Eos XS, and im in looove its my first actual digital DSLR !! and i NEED to use it more, there is another reason for the 52 WP :D Ok. i dont know what else to say.. so, Happy 1st day of the year people!! :D

Desde hace 40 años, Oscar trabaja vendiendo maní en el Parque Rodó y en el estadio; siempre y cuando el tiempo lo ayude. Jubilado de la Coca Cola, compensa los ingresos de su jubilación con este oficio. Por suerte se pudo comprar una moto, si no hace mucho frío, se viene de Manga los días lindos para hacerse unos pesitos extras. Hace 40 años que vendo maní, pero mirá que tengo más de 40. dice con una sonrisa en su cara. Creo que vale la pena verla a un tamaño mayor.

Handheld exposure at 1.1 sec, f/2.9 accounts for some of the blur and camera shake, but the different twilight colors from a magnificent sunset, street lighting, reflecting clouds and a bit of clear open sky were too much to pass up. No time to run home and look for a tripod!
