A small temple in Mirzapur, about 60 km from Benares. In the foreground, a lingam, symbol of Shiva, principle of evolution, decorated with the sacred mark associated with Vishnu. The lingam contains in its shape the three great principle of Hinduism : The lower part, sometimes hidden like here, is associated to Brahmâ, principle of creation. The circle around is for Vishnu, principle of conservation, while the black merging stone is properly representing Shiva. In the background, Ram ji, seventh Vishnu's avatar, stands in the middle, while Hanuman, an emanation of Shiva kneels at his holy feet. On his left is Sita, his wife, (Hindu usually place their wife on the side of their heart), while on right is Lakshman, Ram ji's beloved brother. As I understand hinduism and its numerous gods and goddess, they form a big familly, wich purpose is to show us how to behave and have proper relations with each other. No Hindu would say I believe in this god, not in that one. No temple would show only one divinity but a bunch of them are generally united, as seen here. To me, the message is : we are all part of a big familly. Pour en savoir plus sur le principe ternaire à la base de l'hiduisme, en français : www.elishams.org/Trimurti.html
