Minnippi Parklands at dusk, seconds before the sun disappeared over the horizon. The orange haze is smoke from a fire many miles away. Please view , otherwise it looks oversharpened. I've been steeply depressed in recent days and photography has not been able to lift me as it usually does. I've taken to going for a daily walk at Minnippi Parklands (It was Porter's Paddock when I was a kid) -- taking the camera of course -- in a bid to release some endorphins.

A noisy miner (Manorina melanocephala) at dusk at Minnippi Parklands. A territorial and gregarious bird that lives in groups or colonies of 4-12, the Miner will aggressively defend an area against invaders, harassing and chasing away larger invaders. Their 'Noisy' name is obvious when encountered, for their alarmed warning shrills are echoed across the colony. You should see 'em harassing cats.

A juvenile Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina Tibicen) at Minnippi Parklands. When it reaches adulthood the mottled feathers will turn black. I've taken to feeding the ducks, purple swamp hens, magpies and other bird life at Minnippi in recent days. These magpies come very close and one of them will eat from my hand. When the pita bread has run out they start carolling (singing, warbling). .

This rather cute but seemingly heavily-armoured bug was carrying a few passengers. The reddish patches (best seen large) just above the front leg are actually tiny mites. I love macro! Taken with a 70mm Sigma Macro, 1.4x teleconverter and 4 Close-up Lens/Filter My wife (Waferkitty) spotted this bug first so here's a link to :}
