St Paul's on a shy day...
Made by Trapac
Vivitar Ultra Wide & Slim & Kodak Elite Chrome 100 Cross Processed. Millennium Bridge (London) If you stand at the far end of the bridge, to the left of the walkway and put your camera on the floor, you just see St Paul's sidling shyly off to the left. To catch this building unashamedly centre-stage, you have to walk to the end of the barrier you can see on the right here, and park yourself with a small picnic and a flask of tea, whilst waiting for a two second glimpse of 'unadulterated-with-people' potential photographic opportunities. Good Luck. We decided, given the time we had, to try again next time...... So we did. I haven't got the film developed yet, so I don't know if that one worked, but I liked this one enough to upload it anyway. Even if it was not what I originally envisioned. :) M and I took the chance to go the absolutely amazing Duchamp, Man Ray & Picabia Exhibition at Tate Modern. The breadth and depth of this alliance and friendship; the blending of photographic, painterly, & sculptural media, the abstraction of moving images and the mischievous and collaborative exploration of what constitutes art & artistic credibility was simply amazing. So good in fact, that we had to go in two 'instalments'! These are some of the photographs taken near Tate Modern, on the day of our first visit.

Walk with me.

For round 3 of . I was paired with Timothy Valentine, who after noticing that I take a lot of close-up stuff, challenged me to step back and take a slightly longer view and include some people that I don't know in the shot. I have to admit that I struggled with this, because I usually only include people in my shots that I know or that are disguised by bokeh. I worry that people will freak out if I take pictures of them so it was a while before I managed to get what I wanted with this challenge. I was in London today and being the world famous city that it is, there are a billion tourists taking pictures everywhere anyway, so I relaxed and got this shot on the Millennium Bridge (also known as the Wobbly Bridge, because when it was first built, it wobbled). I do wonder who those two people are and what their story is. People watching is fascinating stuff. The bridge was fantastic for that. And this was my first time trying a square crop, as a woman walked into my shot on the left almost ruining the shot completely, so I used the square crop to (hopefully) save it. I'm not 100% sure about it here, but it'll have to do. Thanks for the challenge, Timothy. I hope this passes (especially as I didn't technically take this in my local area after all) and I will definitely try my hand at more people/street photography in the future. I just need more confidence.

Millenium Bridge - View of North End
Made by ByronLuMorrell
The Millennium Bridge, officially known as the London Millennium Footbridge, is a steel suspension bridge for pedestrians crossing the River Thames in London, England, linking Bankside with the City. It is located between Southwark Bridge (downstream) and Blackfriars Railway Bridge (upstream). The bridge is owned and maintained by the Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust overseen by the City of London Corporation. Construction of the bridge began in 1998, with the opening on 10 June 2000. Londoners nicknamed the bridge the Wobbly Bridge after participants in a charity walk on behalf of Save the Children to open the bridge felt an unexpected, and, for some, uncomfortable, swaying motion on the first two days after the bridge opened. The bridge was closed later that day, and after two days of limited access the bridge was closed for almost two years while modifications were made to eliminate the wobble entirely. It was reopened in 2002. The southern end of the bridge is near Globe Theatre, the Bankside Gallery and Tate Modern, the north end next to the City of London School below St Paul's Cathedral. The bridge alignment is such that a clear view of St Paul's south facade is presented from across the river, framed by the bridge supports. The nearest London Underground station is Mansion House.

The London Millennium Footbridge is a pedestrian-only steel suspension bridge crossing the River Thames in London, England, between the existing Southwark Bridge and Blackfriars Bridge, linking Bankside with the City. It was the first new bridge across the Thames in London since Tower Bridge in 1894 and it is owned and maintained by Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust overseen by the Corporation of London. The south end of the bridge is near Globe Theatre, the Bankside Gallery and Tate Modern, the north end next to the City of London School below St Paul's Cathedral. The bridge alignment is such that a clear view of St Paul's south facade is presented from across the river, framed by the bridge supports, thus providing one of London's most photogenic views of the cathedral. Behold a miracle

Miracles We Take For Granted by Linda M Hill I've heard people say God don't perform miracles anymore That He don't care for us Like He did before When I awoke this morning I was able to get out of bed I had a mind to give thanks Plan my day ahead So many didn't wake up Tomorrow is no guarantee If God opened your eyes this morning Thats a miracle to me When I look out my window I thank God for my sight There are many who cannot see A world with no glimmer of light I thank Him for each footstep For that means I can walk I can breathe, I can laugh God gives me the ability to talk Some have their eyes wide open And still they don't see That all these things we take for granted Are all miracles to me There are many in hospitals Who have to be tube fed They lay there day after day They can't get out of bed God's given me the strength To eat the foods I love To have a roof over my head Is a blessing from above I don't take anything for granted A flower, a sunset, a tree All these things God freely gives us Are all miracles to me ~Linda Hill 2009

The Millenium bridge . Thames London
Made by ZedZap
No prizes for guessing when the Millennium Bridge was built, although it had to be quickly closed again when it was found to bounce up and down rather alarmingly when people walked across. It took almost two years for the problems to be put right, and for that reason, and for its graceful stainless-steel curves, it quickly won the hearts of both Londoners and visitors alike. It was designed by the architect Norman Foster, working with sculptor Anthony Caro and the engineer Ove Arup. The Millennium Bridge leads from below St Paul's Cathedral across the river to the Tate Modern, a thrilling new addition to London's museums and galleries, with exhibitions that seldom fail to cause a stir. The Millennium Bridge is featured in the following works: * Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film adaptation, in which several of Lord Voldemort's Death Eaters destroy the bridge in a style similar to that of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse.

El tiempo fundido...ayer y hoy conviviendo en armonia!
Made by Kalsa (m.a.mondini)

We will give you the Sky!
Made by The Round Peg
When I walked down the Millennium Bridge, the other day, I did not expect to stop by, crouching and start shooting without any problem. I did not expect to blend in the steel, unseen, but it happened. Shooting from a different perspective gives a different look to the photos, and I loved the background the moment I crouched. In this case I had the perfect background: a great sky and St Pauls's Cathedral. Then I started waiting for a good subject. And the subject came. This lady was walking very fast (thank god the light was good and the shutter speed very fast) and in a very Business style. The outcome is an uncropped, untitled image, where I just adjusted the colors a little bit. This photo reminds me of some flamboyant advert: We will give you the Sky! or Because You Business is Our Only Business! :D

I ♥ D700 :)
Made by c@rljones
Please . I had a chance to test my D700 around London last night (the blisters on my feet are testament to the miles and miles of walking I did around the city). This has always been one of my favourite spots in the city for photographs, so was naturally one of my first stops. Also, this image is pretty much straight out of camera, no-post pro beyond the camera RAW import (from memory, saturation+, recovery+, clarity+). I'm just blown away by the quality of this camera, the range of tones it's captured here means I don't even have to bother with that fancy HDR stuff. The lights coming up the path were just a lucky break as a cyclist came cycling up, loving the reflections :) Oh and have to take my hat off to the Nikon 18-35mm lens I used for it, super sharp. Overall, a very happy bunny.

view on black london was definitely a great city to do night shooting. this is definitely one of the most frequent night shots taken in london as i've seen several on flickr already. still, i wanted one of my own. i thought this was a good juxtaposition between the modern millenium bridge and the very old st paul's cathedral. one thing that i had to deal with was the really late time of sunset which only gave me a few hours to get to where i wanted to go and find a spot up to the time the last trains were running which was like at midnight i think. another night shot taken with my trusty gorillapod. i gotta say that london is very gorillapod-friendly... lots of surfaces to prop the pod on...

Millennium Bridge Cityscape
Made by TurnipFarmer
The awesome sight of looking down Millennium Bridge with St Paul's Cathedral and the City in the background. This view amazes me everytime I see it. The Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian steel suspension bridge over the River Thames which links Bankside and the City which is owned by Bridge House Estates. The bridge opened in June of 2000. However not long after opening the bridge developed a 'wobble' due to a slight design problem. It was caused by the people walking on it which caused to resonate at its natural frequency - see this video of the 'wobble' www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAXVa__XWZ8 It was closed and modified to prevent it wobbling and re-opened two years later.

Tate Modern: Street Art
Made by Bill McIntyre
I'm not sure, I think it's a little bit dad at the disco....organised structured street art exhibiting just seems a bit wrong. Though this image I do like - got me while I was walking over the Millenium Bridge, thinking it was a gun not a video camera... I ended up looking this image up after I saw it in the background of an interview with a street art curator (for want of a better phrase) . The artist is called JR, and this image has been lifted in isolation out of a picture which has a different context (if not meaning). It's worth going to his site www.jr-art.net/ and then clicking on portfolio, and 5 images in you'll find the original of this - a powerful image from a different view.

www.anthonybrawley.co.uk St Pauls Cathedral from Millennium Bridge, South Bank, London at Dusk. Thanks to everyone for all the comments of late, I'm slowly but surely making my way around everyones streams from since I have been away from Flickr. Apologies to everyone who has added me as a contact and I have not yet reciprocated. In fact my contacts will be going the other way, i.e. I need to shed some. I simply dont have time to keep up with all of my contacts and I feel this is most unfair to those who have supported me since joining. I do sincerely appreciate each and every view/comment/fave and contact request. Best A

Millennium Tate Solitude
Made by klem@s
A distinction can be made between physical and mental Solitude. People may seek physical Solitude to remove distractions and make it easier to concentrate, reflect, or meditate, or in my case take a steady shot on top of the Millennium Bridge at 3am. However, this is not necessarily an end in and of itself. Once a certain capacity to resist distractions is achieved, people become less sensitive to distractions and more capable of maintaining mindfulness and staying inwardly absorbed and concentrated. Such people, unless on a mission of helping others, don't seek any interaction with the external physical world. Their mindfulness is their world, at least ostensibly, in a mental Solitude.

St Pauls Cathedral

Taken with a Tamron 17-50mm With the evenings drawing in it’s a good opportunity to go out and do some night photography, the London landscape seems to come alive when the lights come on. I decided to take a walk to St Pauls Cathedral after work yesterday, it’s a bit of a trek from Soho but it’s not a bad walk. I'm not overkeen on the cloud formations, maybe a second visit when the sky is clearer?? This is a 5 exposure HDR: F8 100 ISO 5, 10, 20, 40 and 80 seconds This is my last post for a while (not that I’m a serial poster), off on holiday tomorrow, so I’ll catch up with you all when I get back. Bridge to the Past
Made by lhongchou
Millennium Bridge with St Paul's Cathedral One of London’s most interesting structures - Millennium Bridge, designed by Foster and Partners. It connects two famous landmarks in London - St Paul's Cathedral and Tate Modern, a unusual way of connecting the past with the present. With or without its bounce, the Millennium Bridge is a breathtaking symbiosis of architecture, art, and engineering. Norman Foster worked closely with sculptor Anthony Caro and Arup to create a thin ribbon of stainless steel and aluminum, raised on just two Y-shaped concrete pylons 36 feet above the Thames. - Michael J. Crosbie

London's Millennium Bridge and St Paul's
Made by Tony Margiocchi (Snapperz)
Another trip down to 'The Smoke' (London) produced some more night photos of our capital city. It's just under 200 miles for the round trip including hunting for snaps, so I don't do it that often. I particularly wanted to see this newest London bridge as I have seen many images of it and wanted one for me! It kept its promise of an interesting 'leading line' across the river Thames to St Paul's for me, with low water and its dynamic architecture. We had a mist in the air this night, but it was still fun to do. View large if possible. Taken on the Nikon D300 with a 17-55mm f2.8 mounted on a tripod.
